2008 Chatham Cup
The 2008 Chatham Cup is the New Zealand's 81st knockout football competition. The final was played on 13 September at North Harbour Stadium, North Shore. In all, 132 teams took part in the 2008 competition. Note: there is some confusion as to the round numbers. Some publications list a preliminary round, a qualification round, and four rounds proper before quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final; others list a preliminary round and five rounds before the quarter-finals. the latter numbering system is used in this article. The 2008 competition's final rounds were unusual for two reasons: only one of the four semi-finalists had ever previously reached the semi-finals (Dunedin Technical - the only team to have done so - won the cup in 1999), and two South Island teams reached the semi-finals for the first time since 1995. North Harbour Stadium
North Harbour Stadium is a stadium situated in Albany, in North Shore City, New Zealand. It was opened in 1997, after nearly a decade of discussion, planning and construction. Rugby union, association football, rugby league, and baseball are all played on the main ground. The neighbouring oval plays host to the senior cricket and Australian rules football matches. The stadium also hosts large open-air concerts. Birkenhead United
Birkenhead United AFC is an amateur association football, football club based in Beach Haven, New Zealand, Beach Haven, on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. They currently compete in the Northern League (New Zealand), Northern League. Club history The club was established as Birkenhead in 1960 before it amalgamated with Birkdale in 1963 taking its current name as Birkenhead United. Glenfield Rovers
Glenfield Rovers was a semi-professional football club based in Glenfield, New Zealand. The men's team competed in the NRFL Division 1 in 2020, having suffered relegation from the NRFL Premier in 2019. The women's team competed in the NRFL Women's Premier League, finishing 2nd with 40 points in the 2019 season. History In 1960 Glenfield Rovers began as the "Chelsea Sugar Refinery" football team. Nomads United
Nomads United is an association football club based in Casebrook, Christchurch, New Zealand. The club competes in the Southern League, the second tier of New Zealand football. Club history Nomads were a prominent team in early New Zealand football, reaching the later rounds of the Chatham Cup on several occasions and reaching the final in 1931. Fencibles United AFC is an amateur association football club, they currently compete in the Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 2. The club is based in Howick/Pakuranga, Auckland. The clubs roots go back to Pakuranga Town AFC and Howick AFC. History In 1995, two East Auckland clubs, Pakuranga Town AFC and Howick AFC, amalgamated to form Fencibles United AFC. Northern Hearts
Northern Hearts is an association football club based in Timaru, New Zealand. The club was founded in 1947 and from 1982 to 1990 was amalgamated with Timaru City as South Canterbury United. Old Boys (Invercargill)
Old Boys' Association Football Club is a junior and senior football club based in the southern New Zealand city of Invercargill. Old Boys' was founded in 1959 by a small group of Southland Boys High School old boys – hence the name Old Boys'. In 1960 the old Brigadiers AFC clubrooms were purchased at Waverley Park. Forrest Hill Milford United AFC was an amateur association football club from Forrest Hill, New Zealand. They last competed in the Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Premier 2020 season before they merged with Glenfield Rovers to form Northern Rovers. History The club was founded in 1975, ever since the club played in local championships and won two NRFL Division 1 titles. Forrest Hill Milford reached the Quarter-Final of the 2009 Chatham Cup, where they were beaten by eventual champions Wellington Olympic 4–3.
