2008 Categoría Primera A Season
The 2008 Categoría Primera A season was the 61st season of Colombia's top-flight football league. The season started on 1 February and ended with the finals on 21 December. Boyacá Chicó won their first ever title in the Apertura tournament, beating America de Cali 4–2 on penalties. América de Cali won their thirteenth title in the Finalizacion tournament, beating Independiente Medellín 4–1 on aggregate. Teams 18 teams competed this season. Real Cartagena was relegated in the previous season, and were replaced by the 2007 Categoría Primera B champions, Envigado. The Categoría Primera A (), commonly referred to as Liga BetPlay Dimayor (between 2015 and 2019 ''Liga Águila'') due to sponsorship by online betting company BetPlay, is a Colombian professional league for association football clubs. It is the country's premier football tournament and sits at the top of the Colombian football league system. A total of twenty clubs compete in the league's regular season. ''División Mayor del Fútbol Profesional Colombiano'', better known as DIMAYOR, operates the league system of promotion and relegation for both Categoría Primera A and Categoría Primera B leagues. Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero
The Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero is a football stadium, also used for athletics, concerts, and rugby sevens, in Santiago de Cali, Colombia which is named to honor the poet Pascual Guerrero. The stadium and the sports complex that surrounds it are one of the finest and most modern sports complexes in Latin America, and led to references of Cali as the "Sports Capital of America". Estadio La Independencia (Spanish for The Independence Stadium) is a multi-use stadium in the city of Tunja, Colombia. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 25,000 people, and is 2,800 metres above sea level. Boyacá Chicó and Patriotas play their home games at this stadium. Before Boyaca Chico's 2008 Apertura league title in June 2008, the stadium's capacity was 8,000, but for the final the capacity was temporarily expanded to 12,000. Also with Chico's qualification to 2009 Copa Libertadores, the stadium was due to be expanded, in order to achieve the minimum 20000 seats that CONMEBOL requires to host an international match.
