2008 Armenian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Armenia on 19 February 2008. Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan was elected in the first round according to official results, but this was disputed by former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who was officially placed second. The candidacy of Sargsyan was backed by incumbent President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, who was ineligible to stand for a third consecutive term. Other candidates included Vahan Hovhannisyan, the Vice President of the National Assembly, representing the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. The largest opposition party, Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law), nominated former parliamentary speaker Artur Baghdasarian as its candidate. Tigran Karapetyan
Tigran Karapeti Karapetyan ( hy, Տիգրան Կարապետի Կարապետյան, 16 May 1945 – 21 October 2021) was an Armenian politician and the chairman of the People's Party. He was also the owner of a private television company named ALM which operated from 2002 to 2011. Karapetyan was the founder of a small, populist political party which he founded after making his fortune in Russia. He appeared on his television station on a daily basis and his "folksy demeanour" was popular with working class and rural Armenians. Tigran Karapetyan lost elections and announced his disappointment of people in an incident in 2011 in Yerevan. He was popular for his charities to people of vulnerable groups. He was the author of a popular song "flowers" (ծաղիկներ), which he sang live on his own TV. He died of Coronavirus aged 76. Gagik Tsarukyan ( hy, Գագիկ Ծառուկյան; born 25 November 1956) is an Armenian businessman, politician, and former athlete. Tsarukyan is the founder and leader of the Prosperous Armenia political party. He also owns various large-scale businesses and is believed to be one of the richest men in Armenia. Announcing his departure from politics for a hiatus in February 2015, he announced his return to politics in January 2017, forming the parliamentary Tsarukyan Alliance, an electoral alliance made up of Prosperous Armenia, the Alliance Party and the Mission Party. Prosperous Armenia
Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP; hy, Բարգավաճ Հայաստան կուսակցություն, Bargavatch Hayastan kusaktsut’yun, abbreviated as ԲՀԿ BHK), is a conservative political party in Armenia. Aram Karapetyan (born February 1, 1964 Yerevan) is an Armenian politician. In 1985 Karapetyan graduated from Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. He also worked in the Russian State Duma, the Duma Council for National Security, and the upper chamber of Russia's Federal Assembly. Arman (November 17, 1928 – October 22, 2005) was a French-born American artist. Born Armand Fernandez in Nice, France, Arman was a painter who moved from using objects for the ink or paint traces they leave (''cachets'', ''allures d'objet'') to using them as the artworks themselves.
