2008 24 Hours Of Spa
The 2008 Total 24 Hours of Spa was the fifth round of the 2008 FIA GT Championship season. It took place at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, on 2 – 3 August 2008. Half-point Leaders In the FIA GT Championship (using the GT1 and GT2 classes), the top eight teams at the six-hour mark as well as the midway point of the race are awarded points towards the championship. The 24 Hours of Spa is an Endurance racing (motorsport), endurance racing event for cars held annually since 1924 at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Stavelot, Belgium. It is currently sponsored by TotalEnergies. History The Spa 24 Hours was conceived by Jules de Their and Henri Langlois Van Ophem just one year after the inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans was run. It debuted in 1924 over a circuit on public roads between the towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot, under the auspices of the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium (RACB). The present circuit was inaugurated in 1979 with only slight variations since then. Eric Van De Poele
Eric van de Poele (born 30 September 1961) is a Belgian racing driver and former Formula One driver. He participated in 29 Grands Prix, in 1991 and 1992. He is a three-times class winner at 24 Hours of Le Mans, and won three Formula 3000 races in 1990. Driving career After a difficult 1984 season in French Formula Three, van de Poele then won the Belgian and Benelux Formula Ford titles, also racing in the Belgian Touring Car Championship. He subsequently raced in German Touring Cars Championships, winning the 1987 championship despite not winning a race all season. He also won the 1987 Spa 24 Hours, sharing a car with Didier Theys and Jean-Michel Martin. He also dabbled in British Formula 3. Joël Camathias
Joël Camathias (born 9 February 1981) is a Swiss race car driver born in Lugano. In 2001 he raced in the International Formula 3000 championship and in 2002 in the European F3000 series. In 2003 he made 7 starts in the American Champ Car series for Dale Coyne Racing, his best finish a 9th in his debut at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Having previously driven sports cars part-time, he then returned to Europe to drive in the Le Mans Series in 2004 and the FIA GT Championship in 2005 and 2006. He also won the GT2 Class of the 2006 Le Mans Series season with Marc Lieb driving a Porsche 911 for Autorlando Sport. Alain Ferté (born 8 October 1955 in Falaise, Calvados) is a professional racing driver. He is the elder brother of Michel Ferté, who is also a professional racing driver. Alain Ferté competed five seasons in Formula 3000 1985–1989. He won the 1979 French Formula Renault Championship and the 1980 French F3 championship. He has also competed in GT racing for many years, driving cars such as the Porsche 911 GT1, Toyota MR2-based SARD MC8R, and Maserati MC12 GT1. Allan Simonsen (5 July 1978 – 22 June 2013) was a Danish racing driver, born in Odense. He died after a crash during the third lap of the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans. Alessandro Pier Guidi (born December 18, 1983) is a racing driver from Italy. He drove two races for the Italian A1 Team. He is a former Spanish and Italian GT champion, and has raced in the FIA GT1 World Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
