High Jump
The high jump is a track and field event in which competitors must jump unaided over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without dislodging it. In its modern, most-practiced format, a bar is placed between two standards with a crash mat for landing. Since ancient times, competitors have introduced increasingly effective techniques to arrive at the current form, and the current universally preferred method is the Fosbury Flop, in which athletes run towards the bar and leap head first with their back to the bar. The discipline is, alongside the pole vault, one of two vertical clearance events in the Olympic athletics program. It is contested at the World Championships in Athletics and the World Athletics Indoor Championships, and is a common occurrence at track and field meets. The high jump was among the first events deemed acceptable for women, having been held at the 1928 Olympic Games. Víctor Rafael Moya Carvajal (born October 24, 1982, in Santiago de Cuba) is a Cuban high jumper. Career Relatively young, he participated in his first major competition in the 2005 World Championships where he cleared 2.29 metres, a new personal best, and won a surprise silver medal along with Yaroslav Rybakov. Career Krymarenko won a gold medal in the 2005 World Championships in Athletics, clearing the height of 2.32 m which was the lowest winning result for men's high jump since 1983. Oskari Frösén (born 24 January 1976 in Kristinestad) is a Finnish high jumper, who won a total of five national titles in the men's high jump event. Rožle Prezelj (born 26 September 1979) is a Slovenian high jumper. Prezelj represented Slovenia at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. His best result came at the 2008 Olympics when he finished the competition in 12th place. His father Dušan, who competed in the decathlon, had a high jump personal best of 2.15 m (set in 1976) and his mother Stanka Lovše-Prezelj was a two-time Yugoslav high jump champion with a personal best of 1.86 m (set in 1981). Jamie Earl "James" Nieto (born November 2, 1976 in Seattle, Washington) is an American high jumper and actor. His personal best jump is 2.34 (7' 8"), achieved at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Nicola Ciotti (born 5 October 1976 in Rimini) is an Italian high jumper. He is the twin brother of Giulio Ciotti. Biography He finished fifth at the 2005 World Championships and sixth at the 2006 European Championships.
