2007 North Ayrshire Council Election
Elections to North Ayrshire Council were held on 3 May 2007, the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections and the Scottish Parliament elections. The election was the first one using eight new wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, each ward will elect three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system form of proportional representation. The new wards replaced the 30 single-member wards which used the plurality (first past the post) system of election. Labour lost overall control of the council but remained the largest party after winning 12 seats - down nine from the previous election. The Scottish National Party (SNP) became the second-largest party, overtaking the Conservatives, after gaining five seats to hold eight. North Ayrshire Council

Scottish Liberal Democrats
The Scottish Liberal Democrats ( gd, Pàrtaidh Libearal Deamocratach na h-Alba, sco, Scots Leeberal Democrats) is a liberal, federalist political party in Scotland, a part of the United Kingdom Liberal Democrats. The party currently holds 4 of the 129 seats in the Scottish Parliament and 4 of the 59 Scottish seats in the House of Commons. North Coast (North Ayrshire Ward)
North Coast is one of the nine wards used to elect members of the North Ayrshire council. Created in 2007 as North Coast and Cumbraes and covering Fairlie, Largs, Millport and Skelmorlie along the Firth of Clyde, plus a sparsely-populated area inland covering part of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, it elected four Councillors. It was unaffected by a national boundary review prior to the 2017 local elections, but after the introduction of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018, North Ayrshire's wards were re-organised for the 2022 election: West Kilbride was added from the previous ''Dalry and West Kilbride'' ward (the remaining territory going to the ''Kilbirnie and Beith'' ward which was consequently re-named Garnock Valley) along with one extra councillor, and the name was shortened to North Coast – although the Great Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae islands were still included. Garnock Valley (ward)
Garnock Valley is one of the nine electoral wards of North Ayrshire Council. Created in 2022, the ward elects five councillors using the single transferable vote electoral system and covers an area with a population of 20,423 people. Boundaries The ward was created following the 2019 Reviews of Electoral Arrangements which were instigated following the implementation of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018. The review coincided with the introduction of the Scottish Elections (Reform) Act 2020 which allowed for the creation of five-member wards. Garnock Valley was formed from two previous wards, taking in all of the former Kilbirnie and Beith ward and the eastern half of the former Dalry and West Kilbride ward. Dalry and West Kilbride was one of the 10 Wards and electoral divisions of the United Kingdom, wards used to elect members of North Ayrshire Council. Created in 2007 following the Fourth Statutory Reviews of Electoral Arrangements, the ward elected three councillors using the single transferable vote electoral system. As a result of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018, the ward was abolished in 2022. The ward latterly produced strong results for the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, Conservatives but was previously split between the Scottish National Party (SNP), Conservatives and Independent (politician), independents. Ardrossan is one of the nine electoral wards of North Ayrshire Council. Created in 2022, the ward elects three councillors using the single transferable vote electoral system and covers an area with a population of 10,359 people. Boundaries The ward was created following the 2019 Reviews of Electoral Arrangements which were instigated following the implementation of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018. Saltcoats And Stevenston (ward)
Saltcoats and Stevenston is one of the nine wards used to elect members of the North Ayrshire council. It was originally created in 2007 and elected four Councillors; as its name suggests, it covered the adjoining small towns of Saltcoats on the Firth of Clyde coast and Stevenston just inland. A national boundary review prior to the 2017 local elections saw the ward abolished in favour of two three-member wards for each town; however this was reversed after the introduction of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018: North Ayrshire's wards were re-organised for the 2022 election with Saltcoats and Stevenston re-instated, now electing five members. Irvine East (ward)
Irvine East is one of the nine wards used to elect members of the North Ayrshire council. It was originally created in 2007 and returned four councillors, covering eastern parts of Irvine, i.e everything east of the A78 road, apart from the south-eastern industrial area around Drybridge and Shewalton. A national boundary review prior to the 2017 local elections led to a new ward, Irvine South being created, the East ward losing the Broomlands and Dreghorn areas, and one seat. A further re-organisation for the 2022 election in relation to the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018 did not affect the Irvine wards. In 2020, the population was 12,542. Irvine West (ward)
Irvine West is one of the nine wards used to elect members of the North Ayrshire Council. Created in 1980, Irvine West was originally a single-member first-past-the-post ward before it was expanded in 2007 to become a multi-member ward which elects four councillors using the single transferable vote electoral system and covers an area with a population of 14,972 people. Boundaries Irvine West was created by the Initial Statutory Reviews of Electoral Arrangements in 1979 as one of the 30 wards of Cunninghame District Council. The original boundaries took in the western part of Irvine on the Firth of Clyde coast up to the River Garnock and included the abandoned Snodgrass Village and Bogside Racecourse. Scottish Conservative And Unionist Party
