Major League Lacrosse
Major League Lacrosse (MLL) was a men's field lacrosse league in the United States. The league's inaugural season was in 2001. Teams played anywhere from ten to 16 games in a summertime regular season. This was followed by a four-team playoff for the championship trophy, the Steinfeld Trophy, named after founder Jake Steinfeld. League attendance peaked at 6,417 in 2011 and the 2019 average was 4,587. The Chesapeake Bayhawks and New York Lizards (originally the Baltimore Bayhawks and Long Island Lizards) were MLL members throughout its existence and competed in the first three championship games, with the Lizards winning two. The Boston Cannons, the last of the six charter franchises to remain in their original market with their original name, won their first championship in 2011. The Philadelphia Barrage returned to the league in 2020 after an 11-season hiatus. After moving from Bridgeport to Philadelphia, the Barrage won three championships in four years from 2004 to 2007. Pat Heim
Patrick Pat Heim (born May 25, 1984 in Wayne, Pennsylvania) is a professional lacrosse player who plays for the Boston Cannons in Major League Lacrosse and the Philadelphia Wings in the National Lacrosse League. High school career Heim attended Conestoga High School in Berwyn, PA where he played football, wrestling, and lacrosse. In his senior year at Conestoga, Heim was ranked the #1 wrestler at 189 lbs in Southeastern Pennsylvania. College career Heim attended Penn State University where he was named to the All- ECAC First Team three times during his Nittany Lion career. Professional career Heim was the 2007 Major League Lacrosse first overall collegiate draft choice by the Chicago Machine. Alex Smith (lacrosse)
Alexander Douglas Smith (born May 7, 1984) is an American former quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 16 seasons. Smith played college football at Utah, where he received first-team All-American honors and won the 2005 Fiesta Bowl as a senior. He was selected first overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2005 NFL Draft. Smith struggled with consistency and injuries until 2011 when he led the 49ers to their first division title and playoff win since 2002, along with their first NFC Championship Game appearance since 1997. The next year, however, a concussion resulted in Smith losing his starting position to backup Colin Kaepernick. Drew Westervelt (born April 25, 1985 in Bel Air, Maryland) is a former lacrosse player in the National Lacrosse League and Major League Lacrosse. College career Westervelt attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where, as a senior, he was the nation's fifth-leading scorer. Greg Downing
Greg "GD" Downing (born March 24, 1985, in Auburn, New York) is a professional lacrosse player with the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse and with the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League. He was selected to participate in the 2008 and 2009 MLL All-Star Games. College Downing attended Fairfield University, where he was a three-time All-American. In 2005, Downing helped lead the Fairfield Stags#Men.27s lacrosse, Stags to the Great Western Lacrosse League Championship and the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament. David Mitchell (born March 12, 1984 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian lacrosse player who plays for the Philadelphia Wings in the National Lacrosse League. Jordan Rhys Hall (born August 31, 1984) is a Canadian lacrosse player from Surrey, British Columbia who plays for the Rochester Knighthawks in the National Lacrosse League and the Hamilton Nationals of Major League Lacrosse. Mitchell Dye Belisle (born November 9, 1985) is an American former professional lacrosse player for the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse and former player for the Georgia Swarm in the National Lacrosse League. Belisle represented the United States in the 2014 FIL World Championship and the 2011 FIL World Indoor Championship. Frank Resetarits is a lacrosse player from Hamburg, New York. As a high school player Resitarits ranks in the top three players all-time for points in a career. He played forward for the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League and attack for the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse. Ian Dingman (born December 5, 1982) is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a lacrosse player. Dingman, from Deferiet, New York, attended Carthage Senior High School where he lettered in lacrosse four times, football twice, and basketball once. Dingman also attended Bridgton Academy in North Bridgton, Maine.
