2007 KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships
The 2007 KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships took place in Assen at De Smelt ice rink on 3–5 November 2006. Although this tournament was held in 2006 it was the 2006 edition as it was part of the 2006–2007 speed skating season. Simon Kuipers and Beorn Nijenhuis fell during the second race. 1000m Jan Bos claims his second title of the Championships and his fifth title in two years. 1500m Sven Kramer claims his second title of the Championships, while Bos was unable to defend the third of the three titles he won in 2005. 5000m Defending champion Verheijen broke the track record before being overtaken by Kramer in the last pairings. 10,000m Sven Kramer was named King of the Championships after his third title in a new track record. De Smelt
De Bonte Wever (formerly De Smelt) is a sports arena located in Assen, Netherlands. De venue opened in the 1970s with a 400-meter speed skating track. Later an ice hockey hall was added. In the early 1990s the city of Assen became the owner of the sports complex. The speed skating track became semi-indoors and a subtropic swimming pool was added. In 2009 De Smelt was bought by Jan Smit, who changed the name to ''De Bonte Wever''. In 2010 a hotel was built near the complex. Bob De Jong
Bob Johannes Carolus de Jong (born 13 November 1976) is a Dutch former speed skating, speed skater who specialized in long distances: five and ten kilometers. Speed skating career In 2006, he won the gold medal for the ten kilometer race at the 2006 Winter Olympics, Olympic Games in Turin, with a personal record of 13:01.57, beating world record holder Chad Hedrick and Carl Verheijen. He also skated in the men's 5000 m event and placed 6th. In 1998 Winter Olympics, 1998, he won the silver medal in the men's 10,000 m and 4th in the men's 5000 m. In 2010 Winter Olympics, 2010, he won the bronze medal in the men's 10,000 m. and in his fifth Olympics in 2014 he took his second Olympic Bronze in 10,000 m event. Gretha Smit
Grietje "Greta" Smit (born 20 January 1976) is a Dutch former speed skater. Smit won a surprising silver medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics in the 5000 meter event. She skated a world record broken in a later pair by Claudia Pechstein. Prior to that season, she had not competed in long track speed skating competitions for several years, and had only taken up practice again shortly before the Dutch trials in late 2001. However, she had been a very successful marathon skater in the years before 2002. She had become Dutch marathon skating champion on natural ice in 1995, 1998, 2000 and 2001, and on artificial ice in 1999, 2000 and 2001. During the last held Elfstedentocht in 1997 she finished second.
