2007 FIBA Africa Championship
AfroBasket 2007 was the 24th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the African zone thereof. The tournament was hosted by Angola, in the cities of Benguela, Cabinda (city), Cabinda, Huambo and Lubango. Angola national basketball team, Angola won its fifth consecutive African championship and ninth overall by beating Cameroon national basketball team, Cameroon 86-72 in the championship game. Cape Verde national basketball team, Cape Verde won the bronze medal game over Egypt national basketball team, Egypt. Angola qualified for the Basketball at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's tournament, 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing whereas Cameroon and Cape Verde qualified for the 2008 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men, 2008 Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Rwanda men's national basketball team is a basketball team that represents Rwanda in international competitions. It is administered by the Rwandan Basketball Federation (FERWABA) Rwanda has yet to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, but has qualified for the AfroBasket six times. Before 2000, Team Rwanda was virtually unknown to most basketball fans worldwide. Since the mid-2000s however, the team slowly but surely has made a name for itself. Team Rwanda has emerged as a major force in East Africa and has qualified for the AfroBasket, Africa's prime basketball event, four times in a row between 2007 and 2013. At the AfroBasket 2021 on home soil, Rwanda beat Angola, winner of ten AfroBasket editions between 1989 and 2013. The victory was cosidered an enourmous achievement of the national team.

Joaquim Brandão Gomes, also known as "Kikas", (born December 23, 1980) is a retired Angolan professional basketball player. He has played professionally in Germany and the Netherlands. A in height, 100 kg (220 pounds) in weight center-power forward, Gomes was a stand out at Valparaiso University in Indiana, United States, where he played from 2000 to 2004. In 2005, he won the German basketball cup with RheinEnergie Köln. He also played for his country's national team in the 2004 Summer Olympics, 2006 FIBA World Championship, FIBA Africa Championship 2007. Miguel Pontes Timóteo Lutonda, 186 cm/´6'1", 78 kg/72 lbs, (born December 24, 1971) is a retired Angolan professional basketball point guard. For two consecutive years: 2001 and 2002, he received the Angola Sportsman of the Year Award. He is a two-time FIBA Africa Championship MVP, having won such title in 2001 and 2003. He was also voted MVP at the 2003 Angolan league. On October 17, 2012, Lutonda played his last official match for Primeiro de Agosto, in a game against Recreativo do Libolo for the Victorino Cunha Cup. At the end of the game, his 14 jersey was retired by Primeiro de Agosto.
