2007 Campeonato Brasileiro Série C
In 2007, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, the third division of the Brazilian League, was contested by 64 clubs, with the promotion of Bragantino, Bahia (lost Fonte Nova against Vila Nova), Vila Nova-GO, and ABC-RN, to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B to be contested in 2008. No teams were relegated, since the fourth division in the Brazilian league was introduced only in 2009. Competition format First stage The 64 teams play in 16 groups of four. Within each group, the four teams play a double round robin, i.e. they play each other in home and away matches, totalling six matchdays. The two best ranked teams in each group qualify to the Second Stage. Second stage The 32 teams qualified from the First Stage play in eight groups of four. Campeonato Brasileiro Série C
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C is the third tier of the Brazilian football league system. Unlike the first and second divisions, the Série C is not played in a double round robin system, arguably because many participating teams lack the financial conditions to travel long distances. Thus, the tournament is organized in regional groups and the table prevents teams from distant states from playing each other in the initial rounds. Until 2008, any professional team could apply, but only 64 teams would take part in the tournament. The teams that had been relegated from the Série B in the previous year were joined by teams qualified for each federation state. Qualification rules varied, some federations used the state tournaments as qualification tournaments, others organized exclusive qualification tournaments to the Série C. Alagoinhas Atlético Clube, commonly referred to as Atlético de Alagoinhas, is a Brazilian football club based in Alagoinhas, Bahia. History The club was founded on August 16, 2001, after the Escolinha de Futebol Companhia de Craques, which was a football youth academy founded by Adauto Menegussi, became a professional football club.
