The 2006 World Weightlifting Championships were held at the Handball Pavilion and Weightlifting Pavilion Dr. José Joaquín Puello in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Shi Zhiyong (weightlifter, Born 1980)
Shi Zhiyong (; born February 10, 1980 in Longyan, Fujian) is a PR China, Chinese Olympic weightlifting, weightlifter. He became Olympic Champion during the 2004 Summer Olympics. He lifted a total of 325 kg, equalising the World record at that time. Shi participated in the men's 69 kg class at the 2005 and 2006 World Weightlifting Championships. He won gold in 2005 and silver in 2006, finishing behind Vencelas Dabaya. He snatch (weightlifting), snatched 150 kg and clean and jerk, jerked an additional 177 kg for a total of 327 kg, 5 kg behind winner Dabaya. Tigran Vardan Martirosyan ( hy, Տիգրան Գ. Մարտիրոսյան, born 3 March 1983 in Leninakan, Armenian SSR) is an Armenian weightlifter. He is 175 cm tall. Martirosyan was awarded the Honored Master of Sports of Armenia title in 2009. Biography Tigran Martirosyan began weight training in 1995 under the guidance of Vahan Bichakhchyan. Andrei Rybakou ( be, Андрэй Анатолевіч Рыбакоў) (born March 4, 1982) is a former Belarusian weightlifter, Olympian and two-time World Champion who competed in the 85 kg category. In 2016, after a retest of his 2008 samples tested positive for Dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone and Stanozolol his performance at the 2008 Olympic Games was disqualified, as well as his Olympic record and World record set during the competition. Oleg Perepetchenov (born September 6, 1975) is a Russian powerlifter and former weightlifter. In the 2001 and 2002 World Weightlifting Championships, Perepetchenov won the silver medal in the Men's 77 kg weight category. Perepetchenov competed in the Men's 77 kg at the 2004 Summer Olympics and won the bronze medal, lifting 365.0 kg in total. Biography Ara Khachatryan was born on September 13, 1982, in Leninakan, Armenian SSR (now Gyumri, Armenia), a city well known for its weightlifters. Under personal trainer Alexan Karapetyan and coach Boghos Poghosyan, Ara began weight training from an early age. Taner Sağır (born 13 March 1985 in Kardzhali, Bulgaria) is a Turkish world and Olympic weightlifting champion. Coming into Athens as holder of all the junior world records at the age of only 19, he broke the Olympic records in the category –77 kg snatch, clean and jerk and total.
