Kranj
Kranj (, german: Krainburg) is the third-largest city in Slovenia, with a population of 37,941 (2020). It is located approximately northwest of Ljubljana. The centre of the City Municipality of Kranj and of the traditional region of Upper Carniola (northwestern Slovenia) is a mainly industrial city with significant electronics and rubber industries. Geography The nucleus of the city is a well-preserved medieval old town, built at the confluence of the Kokra and Sava rivers. Marte Elden (born 4 July 1986, in Levanger) is a Norwegian cross-country skier who competed between 2005 and 2011. Cross-country skiing She won a gold medal at the 2005 Junior World Championship. She made her World Cup debut on 19 November 2005 in Beitostølen, and collected her first World Cup points with a 22nd place on 9 February 2008 in Otepää. She finished among the top ten for the first time on 23 February 2008 in Falun, with a tenth place. She represents the sports club Henning SL, and lives in Namdalseid. Betty Ann Bjerkreim Nilsen (born 7 September 1986) is a Norwegian orienteering competitor and cross-country skier. She was a junior World Champion in both sports. At senior level she has won a gold medal in relay at the World Orienteering Championships. Marina Charlotte Kalla (born 22 July 1987 in Tärendö) is a Swedish cross-country skier who has been competing at international level since the 2003–04 season. Kalla is a three-time Olympian, winning her first Olympic gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in the 10 km freestyle event in Vancouver. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi Kalla ran the final leg in the 4 × 5 km women's relay race and started third with a 25.7 seconds lag behind the first place but reduced the gap, overtaking her competitors in the final straight, earning Sweden the first gold medal in the women's relay event since 1968. Celine Marie Knudtzon Brun-Lie (born 18 March 1988) is a Norwegian former cross-country skier. She won a bronze medal at the 2006 Junior World Ski Championships, recorded a fourth place at the 2007 Junior World Ski Championships and won a gold medal in relay at the 2008 Junior World Ski Championships. Natalya Konstantinovna Matveyeva (russian: Ната́лья Константи́новна Матве́ева; born 23 May 1986) is a Russian cross-country skier who has been competing since 2004. Matveyeva skis for Dynamo Moscow. She has a total of four victories since 2004, including three in the 2006–2007 season. All four of her victories have been in the sprint events. Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen (born 22 January 1987) is a Norwegian cross-country skier and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). She skis with the IL Heming club in Oslo, near Holmenkollen. Her greatest achievement is winning the gold medal in sprint at the 2007 World Championships. On 22 April 2020, she announced her retirement from cross-country skiing in favour of medical studies. Career Before 2006/07 season Prior to the 2006/07 season Jacobsen had competed in five World Cup events, three sprint races and two pursuits. One sprint in Drammen in the 2004/05 season and the rest at the end of the 2005/06 season.
