2006 Belarusian Premier League
The 2006 Belarusian Premier League was the 16th season of top-tier football in Belarus. It started on April 18 and ended on November 4, 2005. Shakhtyor Soligorsk were the defending champions. Team changes from 2005 season Two lowest placed in 2004 teams ( Zvezda-BGU Minsk and Slavia) relegated to First League. They were replaced by the winners of 2005 First League Belshina Bobruisk and First League runners-up Lokomotiv Vitebsk. Dnepr-Transmash Mogilev shortened their name to Dnepr Mogilev. Overview BATE Borisov won their 3rd champions title and qualified for the next season's Champions League. The championship runners-up Dinamo Minsk and 2006–07 Cup winners Dinamo Brest qualified for UEFA Cup. Belarusian Premier League
The Belarusian Premier League or the Vyšejšaja Liha or the Vysheyshaya Liga ( be, Вышэйшая ліга, russian: Высшая лига, "Top League") is the top division of professional football in Belarus, and is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation. The number of teams in the competition has varied over the years from as high as 17 (1992–93 season) to as low as 11 (2012). As of 2016, the league included 16 teams. Each team plays every other team twice during the course of the season. At the end of the season, the two teams with the fewest points are automatically relegated to the Belarusian First League, while the third worst team plays a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team from the second tier. The top two teams from the Belarusian First League automatically win promotion to the Premier League. 2006–07 Belarusian Cup was the 16th edition of the football knock-out competition in Belarus. First round 15 teams from the Second League (out of 17, excluding two teams which were reserve squads for Premier and First League teams), 10 teams from the First League (out of 14) and 3 amateur clubs started in this round.
