2005–06 A-League
The 2005–06 A-League was the 29th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the inaugural season of the A-League. After over 12 months without a national professional club competition since the close of the 2003–04 National Soccer League season, the first match in the A-League was played on 26 August 2005. The competition was made up of a triple round robin league stage before a championship playoff featuring the top four teams. Of the eight participants, four came from the National Soccer League (1977–2004): Perth Glory (established 1995), New Zealand Knights (1999), Newcastle Jets (2000) and Adelaide United (2003). New Zealand Knights had previously entered the NSL as the ''Auckland Football Kingz'', but were significantly restructured and have a vastly different playing roster. A-League
A-League Men (known as the Isuzu UTE A-League for sponsorship reasons) is the highest-level professional men's soccer league in Australia and New Zealand. At the top of the Australian league system, it is the country's premier men's competition for the sport. A-League Men was established in 2004 as the A-League by the Football Federation Australia (FFA) as a successor to the National Soccer League (NSL) and competition commenced in August 2005. The league is currently are administered by the Australian Professional Leagues (APL), contested by twelve teams; eleven based in Australia and one based in New Zealand. The men's, women's and youth leagues have now been brought together under a unified A-Leagues banner. Perth Glory FC
Perth Glory Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in Perth, Western Australia. It competes in the country's premier men's competition, A-League Men, under licence from Australian Professional Leagues. Founded in 1995, Perth Glory is one of three A-League clubs to survive from the now-defunct National Soccer League (NSL), playing their debut match in this competition in October 1996 for the 1996–97 season. Perth established itself as a major side within Australian soccer in the final seasons of this league, with managers Bernd Stange and Mich d'Avray leading the club to three league Premierships and two Championships from four grand final appearances within a five-season period. Central Coast Stadium
Central Coast Stadium (known originally as Grahame Park), known commercially as Industree Group Stadium is a sports venue in Gosford, on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. The stadium is home to the Central Coast Mariners association football club which competes in the A-League. The stadium also hosts rugby league and rugby union fixtures on an ad hoc basis as well as other major social events. The stadium was originally designed to be the home stadium for the North Sydney Bears rugby league football club. Hindmarsh Stadium (currently known as Coopers Stadium due to sponsorship from Adelaide-based company Coopers Brewery) is a multi-purpose stadium in Hindmarsh, an inner western suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. 2006 A-League Grand Final
The 2006 A-League Grand Final, the first edition of the A-League grand final was played between Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners to decide the champion of the 2005–06 season. The Grand Final took place at Aussie Stadium in Sydney on 5 March 2006 after Sydney FC won the ground advantage after defeating Adelaide United in the major semi-final. In the Grand Final, a goal from Steve Corica in the second half secured the premiership for Sydney. As the winners of the Grand Final, Sydney qualified through to the 2007 AFC Champions League joining Adelaide United who were the minor premiers. Queensland Lions Football Club, known as Lions FC, is a football (soccer) club based in Brisbane, Australia. Founded in 1957 as ''Hollandia Inala Soccer Club'', the club currently competes in the National Premier Leagues Queensland.
