2005 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2005 Speedway Grand Prix was the 60th edition of the official World Championship and the 11th season in the Speedway Grand Prix era used to determine the Speedway World Champion. Event format The format was changed for GP 2005 with 16 riders (instead of 24) taking part in each Grand Prix event, and over the course of 20 heats each rider started in 5 heats and raced against every other rider once (which is the classical round-robin formula of the individual tournament). The top eight scorers advanced to two semi-final heats, and the first and second riders from each semi-final advanced to the GP final heat. All riders apart from the qualifiers for the final carried forward the points earned in the round-robin round over the course of the season. Tony Rickardsson
Tony Rickardsson (born on 17 August 1970) is a Swedish former professional motorcycle speedway rider. He competed in the Speedway World Championships from 1989 to 2006. Rickardsson is notable for winning six Speedway World Championship titles in 15 attempts. He most recently rode for Masarna from Avesta in the Swedish Elitserien league, Unia Tarnów in the Polish Ekstraliga and for the Ipswich Witches, Poole Pirates, King's Lynn Stars, Arena-Essex Hammers and Oxford Cheetahs in the British Elite League. The Santa Marina Stadium is an 5,000-capacity motorcycle stadium in the Lonigo, Italy. The stadium is situated in the southern part of Lonigo, which itself is 25km south of Vicenza. The stadium is affiliated to the Federazione Motociclistica Italiana. History The stadium opened on the on 12 June 1977 hosting the semi-finals of the 1977 Speedway World Pairs Championship. Lonigo had previously had a speedway venue from 1947 to 1972. The stadium has been the home of the World Championship round known as the Speedway Grand Prix of Italy in 1996 and from 2005 to 2008. In addition it has hosted numerous major speedway events, including World and European qualifiers and the Italian Individual Speedway Championship. In 2021, renovation costing in excess 280,000 euros took place in order to bring the stadium into line with regulatory adaptation that also allowed the venue to be used by other parties and not exclusively speedway and it also set a new capacity of 5,000 instead of 8,000. ... Lee Richardson (speedway Rider)
Lee Stewart Richardson (25 April 1979 – 13 May 2012) was a British international motorcycle speedway rider. Career Richardson made his British debut for the Reading Racers in 1995. Richardson represented Great Britain at senior and under-21 level and featured in several World Cup tournaments. Richardson was World Under 21 champion in 1999 and also won the Elite League Riders' Championship in 2003. In October 2002, during the Speedway Grand Prix Qualification he won the GP Challenge, which ensured that he claimed a permanent slot for the 2003 Grand Prix. Tomasz Gollob
Tomasz Robert Gollob (; born 11 April 1971 in Bydgoszcz, Poland) is a former Polish motorcycle speedway rider. He appeared in every Speedway Grand Prix series between its inaugural season in 1995 and 2013. His brother Jacek is also a speedway rider. Career summary Tomasz Gollob spent almost all of his career with hometown club Bydgoszcz until he moved to Unia Tarnów in 2004. He has won the Polish Individual Championship eight times (between 1992 and 2009) and the Polish Pairs Championship ten times. He has also won the Polish Grand Prix eight times in thirteen years. He clinched the Speedway World Championship in 2010 after securing the championship in Terenzano, Italy. He is only the second Pole to ever win the World Championship, following in the footsteps of Jerzy Szczakiel who won in 1973. Andreas Karl Rune Jonsson (born 3 September 1980 in Stockholm, Sweden) is an international motorcycle speedway rider. He was a member of the Sweden speedway team that won the World Cup in 2003, 2004 and 2015. Career summary Jonsson won Under-21 titles at World, Scandinavian and Swedish levels and won the $100,000 first prize on offer at the 100th Speedway Grand Prix, billed as the 'Richest Minute in Motorsport'. Målilla
Målilla () is a locality in Hultsfred Municipality, Kalmar County, Sweden with 1,524 inhabitants in 2010. It is more commonly known as the temperature capital of Sweden due to records, both high and low, being set there. A Swedish record high temperature of +38 °C (100.4 °F) was set on June 29, 1947. This record is shared with Ultuna in Uppland. The lowest temperature recorded is −33.8 °C, one of the lowest ever recorded in southern Sweden. Being famous for the extremes in temperature, the middle of the town's main roundabout features a 15 metre high thermometer. Shortly after its inauguration in December 2000, it was hit by a car and the bulb had to be replaced. Målilla is further famous for motorcycle speedway. The Skrotfrag Arena is a 15,000-capacity multi-use stadium in Målilla, Sweden. The stadium is regularly used as the venue for the World Championship races; the Speedway Grand Prix of Scandinavia and the Speedway Grand Prix of Sweden (rounds of the Speedway Grand Prix, which is the premier world event in motorcycle speedway. The Arena is also the home venue of the speedway team called Dackarna who race in the Eliserien. The speedway track has a circumference of 305 metres. The stadium opened on 29 June 1993 when it was known as the new Målilla Motorstadion and the track record for 500cc is 55.1sec by Andreas Jonsson recorded on 23 August 2011.
