HEW Cyclassics
The Hamburg Cyclassics (currently known as the Bemer Cyclassics for sponsorship purposes) is an annual one-day professional and amateur road bicycle race, cycling race in and around Hamburg, Germany. Although the route varies, its distance is always around 250 km. The course's most significant difficulty is Waseberg hill in Blankenese, which is addressed three times in the race finale. Until 2016 it was Germany's only event on the UCI World Tour calendar, before the inclusion of Eschborn-Frankfurt – Rund um den Finanzplatz in 2017. The race is organized by IRONMAN Unlimited Events Germany GmbH, which also organizes the annual Velothon Berlin. An important part of the Cyclassics is the ''Jedermannrennen'' ("Everyman's race"), an amateur/cyclosportif event held on the same day and on the same roads as the professional race. Martin Elmiger
Martin Elmiger (born 23 September 1978) is a Swiss former road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2001 and 2017 for the Post Swiss Team, , , and squads. During his career, Elmiger was a four-time winner of the Swiss National Road Race Championships. Career Early career Born in Hagendorn, Elmiger's sporting career began with RMV Cham-Hagendorn. AG2R Prévoyance (2007–12) One of the best moments in Elmiger's career was leading the 2007 Tour Down Under for 2 stages and then winning it by a mere 3 seconds over Australian Karl Menzies. Bert Grabsch
Bert Grabsch (born 19 June 1975) is a German former road bicycle racer, who raced as a professional between 1999 and 2013. He was born in Wittenberg and is the younger brother of fellow road racing cyclist Ralf Grabsch. He is a former UCI time trial world champion, having won the title in Varese, Italy on 25 September 2008. He competed at the Cycling at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in the Individual Road Race, which he did not finish, and Individual Time Trial, where he finished thirteenth. In the same events at the 2012 Summer Olympics, he finished 95th in the road race and 8th in the time trial. Grabsch retired at the end of the 2013 season, after fifteen years as a professional. Juan Antonio Flecha
Juan Antonio Flecha Giannoni (born 17 September 1977) is an Argentine-born Spanish former professional road bicycle racer, who competed as a professional between 2000 and 2013. Flecha had a reputation of being a Classics specialist and to ride with an aggressive style as he was keen on participating in breakaways. His major victories include winning a stage of the 2003 Tour de France, successes at the two defunct classics Züri-Metzgete and Giro del Lazio in 2004, and the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in 2010. He was also known for his numerous high placings in important one-day races, most notably Paris–Roubaix, where he finished in the top ten eight times without registering the victory. Tinkoff () was a Russian-registered professional cycling team from Russia and previously Denmark. It competed in the UCI World Tour. The team was owned by Russian Oleg Tinkov and, from 1999 until March 2015, was managed by former Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis. Vladimir Nikolayevich Gusev (russian: Владимир Николаевич Гусев, born 4 July 1982) is a Russian former professional road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2004 and 2015 for the , , , and teams. Career At the 2006 Paris–Roubaix, Gusev finished fourth but was later one of three riders disqualified by the race jury for illegally riding through a closed level-crossing. On 25 July 2008, Gusev was fired by his team for showing "abnormal" values during an internal doping check, a decision the Court of Arbitration for Sport found to be unjust in a ruling the following June. Salvatore Commesso (born March 28, 1975) is an Italian professional road bicycle racer who most recently rode for UCI Professional Continental team Preti Mangimi. He was born in Torre del Greco, Campania, and turned professional in 1998. That year he came in third in the Grand Prix Suisse and the Giro del Capo. He won the Italian National Championships and Stage 13 of the 1999 Tour de France in 1999. Commesso won Stage 18 of the 2000 Tour de France and won the points competition in the Volta a Portugal in 2001. In 2002, he again won the Italian Championship, as well as the Trofeo Matteotti and the Criterium d'Abruzzo. He rode for the team from 1998 to 2004. Phonak () was a Swiss professional cycling team from 2000 until 2006. The team was one of 20 teams in the first UCI ProTour in 2005. It won one race – Santiago Botero's victory in the Tour de Romandie – and came second in the team ranking on the 2005 ProTour circuit. History A sponsor, iShares (subsidiary of Barclays Global Investors) signed a three-year contract in June 2006 to become the team's title sponsor from 2007. The team's name was to be iShares. Andy Rihs, owner of Phonak Hearing Systems, said on 15 August 2006 that the deal had been called off after the team's leader, Floyd Landis, tested positive for high levels of testosterone, and that the team would disband at the end of 2006. Gerolsteiner () was a German road bicycle racing team in the UCI ProTour. It was sponsored by the mineral water company Gerolsteiner Brunnen and Specialized. History The team was founded in 1997 as Schauff Oeschelbronn professional cycling team by team manager Hans-Michael Holczer and sports directors Rolf Gölz and Christian Henn. Cycling Classic
The classic cycle races are the most prestigious one-day professional road cycling races in the international calendar. Some of these events date back to the 19th century. They are normally held at roughly the same time each year. The five most revered races are often described as the cycling monuments. For the 2005 to 2007 seasons, some classics formed part of the UCI ProTour run by the Union Cycliste Internationale. This event series also included various stage races including the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a España, Paris–Nice, and the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré. The UCI ProTour replaced the UCI Road World Cup series (1989–2004) which contained only one-day races.
