2004 World Ringette Championships
The 2004 World Ringette Championships (''2004 WRC'') was an international ringette tournament and the 7th (XII) World Ringette Championships. The tournament was organized by the International Ringette Federation (IRF) and was contested in Stockholm, Sweden, between November 23 and 27, 2004. The game for the world title final between Canada and Finland took place at the Visättra SportCenter in Huddinge, Stockholm, Sweden. Overview Team Finland took the world championship by crushing Team Canada 9–3 in the final. Since the 2004 World Championships, Finland has dominated the international senior level of ringette. Shelly Hruska is a Canadian Metis ringette and bandy player, coach, and teacher from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Hruska helped lead Team Canada twice to victory in the World Ringette Championships. Hruska was inducted into the Ringette Manitoba Hall of Fame in 2016–2017 under the category, "Player". Team Finland
Team Finland represents Finland in women's international roller derby, in events such as the Roller Derby World Cup. The team was first formed to compete at the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup, and finished the tournament in fifth place. Finland's first bout was on 8 October 2011, against Team Sweden in Helsinki, in what Stockholm Roller Derby claimed was "the world's first Roller Derby bout between two nations". Finland lost by 135 points to 71. At the World Cup, Finland lost their quarter final to Team Canada by 499 points to 31, at that time the highest point spread in the tournament. Anna Vanhatalo
Anna Vanhatalo (born 29 February 1984) is a Finnish retired ice hockey and ringette player and former member of the Finnish national ice hockey team and the Finnish national ringette team. Representing Finland, she won a bronze medal in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In 2004 and 2007, she won gold in the World Ringette Championships. Ringette career Vanhatalo made her goaltending debut in the premier Finnish ringette league, the Ringeten SM-sarja, at age 18 in 2002. She was a member of the Finnish national ringette team in 2004 and 2007.
