2004 Italian Formula Three Season
The 2004 Italian Formula Three Championship was the 40th Italian Formula Three Championship season. It began on 4 April at Adria and ended on 24 October at Misano after fourteen races. Matteo Cressoni of Ombra Racing won the opening race at Adria, race at Pergusa and had another six podiums and ultimately clinched the title. Coloni Motorsport's Toni Vilander had six wins and the same number of points as Cressoni, but he was ineligible to contest for the title. Third place went to Lucidi Motors driver Alex Frassineti, who took one victory, and he finished ahead of Imola winner Michele Rugolo, who competed with Team Ghinzani. The Italian Formula Three Championship was the Formula Three racing competition in Italy. History Formula Three has traditionally been regarded as the first major stepping stone for F1 hopefuls - it is typically the first point in a driver's career at which most drivers in the series are aiming at professional careers in racing rather than being amateurs and enthusiasts. Success in F3 can lead directly to more senior formulae such as GP2, A1 Grand Prix, or even a Formula One test or race seat. Most notably in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Italian F3 championship produced drivers who graduated to Formula One to varying success. Álvaro Barba López (born 17 February 1984 in Seville) is a Spanish racing driver and brother to fellow racer Marco Barba. Career Formula Junior and Spanish Formula Three Barba began his single seater career in 2002 driving in the Spanish Formula Junior 1600 series, where he finished runner up to fellow countryman Adrián Vallés. , literally "child's dream", is a Japanese racing car constructor involved mainly in open-wheel and sports car racing. History In 1965, Minoru Hayashi built his first racing car, a rebodied Honda S600 coupe. Belonging to Tojiro Ukiya, it was called the "Karasu" (crow in Japanese), due to its shape. Built on a small budget and in a short time, the Karasu emphasized weight reduction and aerodynamics using FRP materials. The car went on to win its debut race at the Suzuka Clubman Race, despite Hayashi having no experience in racecar construction. In 1966 he went on to build the "Macransa", a more extensively modified Honda S800, to compete at the Japanese Grand Prix. Davide Rigon (born 26 August 1986) is an Italian professional racing driver who is currently competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship and other selected GT races for AF Corse. He is also currently part of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One test driver team.
