2003 Detroit Lions Season
The 2003 Detroit Lions season was the 74th season in franchise history. Prior to the season, the Lions hired Steve Mariucci, who was well known for his tenure with the San Francisco 49ers, as their head coach. He spent two and a half seasons with the Lions until his firing in November 2005. The season saw the team draft Charles Rogers with the second overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. However, on-and-off the field issues, and later injuries, interrupted his career. He was released by the Lions in 2006, and immediately went out of the NFL. Much like quarterback Ryan Leaf, Rogers remains one of the biggest draft busts in the contemporary NFL. During the offseason, the Lions introduced a new logo, with the outline of the lion changing to black. NFC North
The National Football Conference – Northern Division or NFC North is one of the four divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Nicknamed the "Black and Blue Division" for the rough and tough rivalry games between the teams, it currently has four members: the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings. The NFC North was previously known as the NFC Central from 1970 to 2001. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were previously members, from 1977, one year after they joined the league as an expansion team, until 2002 when they moved to the NFC South. The division was created in 1967 as the Central Division of the NFL's Western Conference and existed for three seasons before the AFL–NFL merger. 2002 Michigan State Spartans Football Team
The 2002 Michigan State Spartans football team represented Michigan State University in the 2002 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Spartans played their home games at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan. This was the third and final season for head coach Bobby Williams, who was replaced after the Michigan game by interim head coach Morris Watts. The Spartans were coming off a 7–5 season which ended with a victory in the 2001 Silicon Valley Football Classic over the Fresno State Bulldogs. However, the 2002 season turned out to be very different. The Spartans finished 4–8, their worst record since 1994, and second losing season out of the previous three. James Davis (linebacker)
James "Dirty" Davis (born April 26, 1979) is a former linebacker in the National Football League. He attended West Virginia University, where he also played defensive end. He earned All-Big East Conference second-team honors in 2002. He was drafted in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round. He has 4 kids and is also engaged. Collegiate career Switching from defensive back, linebacker, and end in his four-year collegiate career at West Virginia University, James "Dirty" Davis became one of the better players in school history. Safety is a position in gridiron football on the American football positions#Defense, defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. Terrence DaQuay Holt (born March 5, 1980) is a former American football safety. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 5th round (137th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at North Carolina State University. Holt was also a member of the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints. 2002 Kentucky Wildcats Football Team
The 2002 Kentucky Wildcats football team represented the University of Kentucky in the 2002 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Wildcats scored 385 points while allowing 301 points. Though finishing with a 7–5 record, the Wildcats were not bowl eligible due to NCAA sanctions resulting from the tenure of former head coach Hal Mumme. Season Kentucky opened with a 22–17 win at #17 Louisville, a nationally broadcast upset at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in which Kentucky reclaimed the Governor's Cup. Artose Deonce Pinner (born January 5, 1978) is a former American football running back. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Kentucky. High school years Pinner attended Hopkinsville High School in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and was a standout in football and track. In track, he was a two-time Regional Champion in the 400 meter dash. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. Cory Bartholomew Redding (born November 15, 1980) is a former American football defensive tackle. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft and played college football at Texas. Redding also played for the Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals.
