The 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final was a football match to determine the winners of the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The match was held at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico, on 27 July 2003. A rematch of the 1996 final, it was contested by the winners of the semi-finals, Mexico and Brazil. Both teams met in the group stage at the start of the competition, with Mexico beating Brazil 1–0. Both teams progressed to the knockout stage, reaching the final where Mexico would beat Brazil 1–0 again with a late golden goal from Daniel Osorno. In a sport or game, sudden death (also sudden-death, sudden-death overtime, or a sudden-death round) is a form of competition where play ends as soon as one competitor is ahead of the others, with that competitor becoming the winner. Sudden death is typically used as a tiebreaker when a contest is tied at the end of regulation (normal) playing time or the completion of the normal playing task. An alternative tiebreaker method to sudden death is to play an extra, shortened segment of the game. Mario Méndez Olagüe (born 1 June 1979) is a Mexican former professional Association football, footballer who played as a Defender (association football)#Full-back, right-back. Career Mario Méndez started his career with Club Atlas in the year 1998, in the golden age that included many (at the time, promising) players like Rafael Márquez, Daniel Osorno, Juan Pablo Rodriguez and Miguel Zepeda. Juan Pablo Rodríguez Guerrero (born 7 August 1979) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Luis Ernesto Pérez Gómez (born 12 January 1981) is a Mexican former professional footballer and current manager. José Salvador Carmona Álvarez (born 22 August 1975) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a defender who is currently banned for life from playing professional football affiliated to FIFA for failing two separate anti-doping tests.
