2003 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 2003 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Guinness All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, Hurling Championship) was the 117th since its establishment in 1887. The first matches of the season were played in May 2003, and the championship ended on 14 September 2003. Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny went into the 2003 championship as defending champions, having won their twenty-seventh All-Ireland title the previous year. Seán Dowling
Seán Anthony Dowling (born 10 June 1978) is an Irish retired hurler who played for Kilkenny Championship club O'Loughlin Gaels. He played for the Kilkenny senior hurling team for five seasons, during which time he usually lined out as a right wing-back or at midfield. Career Dowling began his hurling career at club level with O'Loughlin Gaels. He broke onto the club's top adult team as a 16-year-old in 1994 and enjoyed his first success the following year when the club won the 1995 Kilkenny Junior Championship. He won a Kilkenny Intermediate Championship title in 1996 and promotion to the top flight of Kilkenny hurling. Dowling went on to make numerous championship appearances at senior level and was at left wing-back on O'Loughlin Gaels' Leinster Club Championship-winning team in 2003. Jimmy Coogan
James Michael Coogan (born 24 April 1978) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a left wing-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Tullaroan, County Kilkenny, Coogan first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He joined the senior team during the 2000 championship. Coogan later became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won two All-Ireland medals and one National Hurling League medal. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Coogan won one Railway Cup medal. At club level he played with Tullaroan. Andy Comerford
Andrew James Comerford (born 10 October 1972) is an Irish retired hurling manager and former player who played for Kilkenny Senior Championship club O'Loughlin Gaels. He played for the London and Kilkenny senior hurling teams for nearly a decade, during which time he usually lined out at midfield or centre-forward. Comerford began his hurling career at junior club level with O'Loughlin Gaels. After a brief spell with the Brothers Pearse club in London, he returned to O'Loughlin Gaels and enjoyed his first success as a member of the 1996 Kilkenny Intermediate Championship-winning team and promotion to the top flight of Kilkenny hurling. Conor Phelan
Conor Phelan (born 1983) is an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Phelan joined the team during the 2003 championship and made several appearances as a substitute until illness forced him to retire after just two seasons. Richard Michael Mullally (born 27 June 1978) is an Irish sportsperson. He played right wing back on the Kilkenny senior hurling team. Richie Mullally was born in Davidstown County Kilkenny in 1978. Eddie Brennan
Edward Joseph Brennan (born 2 October 1978) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. His league and championship career with the Kilkenny senior team lasted twelve seasons from 2000 until 2011. Brennan was the manager of the Laois senior hurling team from 2019 to 2020. Brennan played competitive hurling in his final year at St Kieran's College, having earlier come to prominence as a dual player at minor levels with the Graigue–Ballycallan club. Martin Timothy Comerford (born 9 November 1978) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in London, at an early age Comerford went to St. John's Boys' National School in Ballybough Street, Kilkenny. Comerford went on to attend St. Kieran's College but was overlooked for the hurling team. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny under-21 team. He joined the senior panel during the 2001 championship. John Hoyne
John Joseph Hoyne (born 2 April 1978) is a former Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Graigue–Ballycallan and he used play with the Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 2000 until 2005. Henry Shefflin
Henry Shefflin (born 11 January 1979) is an Irish hurling manager and former player who is the current manager of the Galway senior hurling team.
