2002 Women's Hockey World Cup Qualifying Playoff
The 2002 Women's Hockey World Cup Qualifying Playoff was an international hockey competition contested by India women's national field hockey team, India and the United States women's national field hockey team, United States. The tournament was held in Cannock from 22 to 25 June 2002. The United States won the tournament, with one win and two draws, qualifying for the 2002 Women's Hockey World Cup, 2002 FIH World Cup. History In September 2001, the United States women's national field hockey team, United States had qualified to compete in the 2001 Women's Intercontinental Cup, Intercontinental Cup in Abbeville and Amiens. Following the September 11 attacks, September 11 attacks however, the team were forced to withdraw due to the disruption of airline schedules. Cannock
Cannock () is a town in the Cannock Chase district in the county of Staffordshire, England. It had a population of 29,018. Cannock is not far from the nearby towns of Walsall, Burntwood, Stafford and Telford. The cities of Lichfield and Wolverhampton are also nearby. Goalkeeper (field Hockey)
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Pritam Rani Siwach (born 2 October 1974) is a former captain of the Indian women's hockey team. In 2008, she was recalled to join the team for the Olympic qualifiers in order to bring an "additional wealth of experience."
