2002 Winnipeg Municipal Election
The 2002 Winnipeg municipal election was held on 23 October 2002 to elect a mayor, councillors and school trustees in the city of Winnipeg. Glen Murray, the city's centre-left mayor, was re-elected to a second term over challenger Al Golden. Results Mayor Councillors *Greg Bozyk was a sales representative for a security company at the time of the election. He indicated that he was putting $10,000 of his personal savings into the campaign. Boyzk supported budget increases for police and firefighters. Winnipeg () is the capital and largest city of the province of Manitoba in Canada. The 1986 Winnipeg municipal election was held on October 22, 1986, to elect a mayor, councillors and school trustees in the city of Winnipeg. Bill Norrie was re-elected to a fourth term as mayor, defeating former Member of the Legislative Assembly Russell Doern and ten other candidates. 29 councillors elected in 29 separate single-member wards. Results Councillors *Cliff Annable was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan in 1947, and was raised in Saskatoon. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Air Crew Officer after graduating from high school. Terry Fox
Terrance Stanley Fox (July 28, 1958 June 28, 1981) was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated due to cancer, he embarked on an east-to-west cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and , and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. The annual Terry Fox Run, first held in 1981, has grown to involve millions of participants in over 60 countries and is now the world's largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research; over C$850 million has been raised in his name as of September 2022. Shields retired as Assistant Dean of the School of Information and Library Studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. River East Transcona School Division (RETSD) is a school division located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As the second largest school division in the province, it is composed of parts of what used to be two separate divisions that merged in 2002: the urban section (i.e., Transcona) of the Transcona-Springfield School Division; and the River East School Division. RETSD provides educational services to approximately 16,700 students in 42 schools, as well as operating the McLeod Education Centre for adult learning.
