2002 US Open (tennis)
The 2002 US Open was held between August 26 and September 8, 2002. Both Lleyton Hewitt and Venus Williams were unsuccessful in their title defences, Hewitt being defeated in the semifinals by Andre Agassi and Venus being defeated in the final by her younger sister Serena. It was the third of four consecutive Grand Slam titles won by Serena, all won by defeating Venus in the final. Pete Sampras, runner-up in 2001, won his fifth US Open title, and his 14th and final Grand Slam title, defeating his rival Agassi in the final in four sets. Dick Norman
Dick Norman (born 1 March 1971) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. He achieved a degree of folk popularity among tennis fans due to his height (6 feet 8 inches), his left-handed power game and, in the last few years of his career, his age (between late 2006 and his retirement in June 2013 he was the oldest player on the ATP Tour). After retirement Norman became involved in coaching and organizing local tennis events. In March 2018, he became the tournament director of ATP Antwerp, also known as the European Open. Career Turning professional in 1991, Norman notched up only his 14th Grand Slam appearance at the 2006 Wimbledon, where, at 35, he was the second oldest male competitor, to Andre Agassi. Oliver Gross
Oliver Gross (born 17 June 1973) is a former professional tennis player from Germany. Career Gross, the 1991 German Youth Champion, turned professional in 1993. The following year reached his first and only ATP Tour final, in San Marino, where he was defeated in straight sets by Carlos Costa. He reached his highest career ranking of 60 in 1995, after reaching the quarterfinals in Munich and defeating number two Peter Sampras in Barcelona 1–6, 6–2, 6–3. His best performance in a Grand Slam came at the 1998 US Open when he reached the round of 16. Tomas Behrend
Tomas Ugo Behrend (born 12 December 1974) is a German former professional tennis player. His career high ATP singles ranking was World No. 74, which he attained in October 2005. His career high in doubles was World No. 43 in October 2007. Behrend retired in 2007 and said he regrets never having the opportunity to have played Andre Agassi before he retired. Behrend has opened up a tennis academy in his hometown of Alsdorf called ToBe. Vladimir Nikolayevich Voltchkov ( be, Уладзімір Мікалаевіч Валчкоў, ''Uładzimir Mikałajevič Vałčkoŭ''; russian: Владимир Николаевич Волчков; born April 7, 1978) is a Belarusian former professional tennis player. Karol Beck (born 3 April 1982) is a male former tennis player from Slovakia, who turned professional in 2001. His career-high singles ranking is World No. 36, achieved in August 2005. Beck reached the fourth round of the 2004 US Open and the quarterfinals of the 2005 Montreal Masters, defeating Nikolay Davydenko en route to both runs. John Van Lottum
John van Lottum (born 10 April 1976) is a former tennis player from the Netherlands, who played professionally from 1994 to 2007. Alexander Waske
Alexander Waske (born 31 March 1975) is a retired tennis player from Germany. Waske was ranked as high as world No. 16 in doubles, winning four titles. He achieved his career-high singles ranking of world No. 89 in June 2006. In 2010, Waske and his former Davis Cup companion Rainer Schüttler founded the Schüttler Waske Tennis-University, a tennis academy for professional players. Oleg Ogorodov (Олег Огородов; born 16 July 1972) is a former tennis player, who turned professional in 1995. He represented Uzbekistan at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Ricardo Mello (born 21 December 1980) is a Brazilian retired tennis player. His preference is for clay courts. He has had the occasional win in hard court tournaments.
