2002 German Formula Three Championship
The 2002 German Formula Three Championship (german: 2002 Deutsche Formel-3-Meisterschaft) was a multi-event motor racing championship for single-seat open wheel formula racing cars that was held across Europe. The championship featured drivers competing in two-litre Formula Three racing cars built by Dallara which conformed to the technical regulations, or formula, for the championship. It commenced on 20 April at Hockenheim and ended at the same place on 6 October after ten double-header rounds. Team Rosberg driver Gary Paffett became the first and only British champion. He won the title, securing six race wins. Kosuke Matsuura finished as runner-up with wins at Hockenheim and Zandvoort. Timo Glock won the Rookie title and three races with a one-point gap to Matsuura in the main championship. German Formula Three Championship
The German Formula Three Championship was the national Formula Three championship of Germany, and the former West Germany, from 1950 to 2002, then as Formel 3 until 2014. In 2003, the series had merged with the French Formula Three Championship to form the Formula 3 Euro Series. The lower-level series, the ATS Formel 3 Cup, subsequently operated in Germany, but it folded after the end of the 2014 season. Prema Powerteam (competing as Prema Racing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, the FIA Formula 3 Championship and European Le Mans Series and as Prema Orlen Team in the FIA World Endurance Championship) is a motorsport team from Italy. Swiss Racing Team (SRT) is an auto racing team based in Inwil, Lucerne, Switzerland. Formed by Othmar Welti and Erich Kolb in 2000, Swiss Racing Team initially competed in the German Formula Three Championship before also joining the Formula Three Euroseries from 2003 to 2004.
