2002 Algarve Cup
The 2002 Algarve Cup was the ninth edition of the Algarve Cup, an invitational women's football tournament hosted annually by Portugal. It was held from first to seventh of March 2002. This was the first edition where the tournament was expanded to twelve teams; all prior editions had eight teams participation. The tournament was won by China, defeating Norway 2-0 in the final-game. Sweden ended up third defeating Germany, 2-1, in the third prize game. Format The twelve invited teams are split into three groups that played a round-robin tournament. With 12 teams participating, the Algarve Cup format has been as follows: Groups A and B, containing the strongest ranked teams, are the only ones in contention to win the title. The group A and B winners contest the final - to win the Algarve Cup. The runners-up play for third place, and those that finish third in the groups play for fifth place. Algarve
The Algarve (, , ; from ) is the southernmost NUTS II region of continental Portugal. It has an area of with 467,495 permanent inhabitants and incorporates 16 municipalities ( ''concelhos'' or ''municípios'' in Portuguese). The region has its administrative centre in the city of Faro, where both the region's international airport (IATA: FAO) and public university, the University of Algarve, are located. Kerstin Stegemann
Kerstin Stegemann (born 29 September 1977) is a German former footballer who played as a defender or midfielder. Career Born in Rheine-Mesum, she made her football debut at age 15 in 1993, playing for FFC Heike Rheine in the Frauen-Bundesliga. Within two years, she made her first appearance for the Germany national team, playing in a 13 April 1995 match against Poland. She went on to become a mainstay of the national team, playing on Germany's bronze medal-winning squads in the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics, as well as their 2003 Women's World Cup championship team. Along with Birgit Prinz and Bettina Wiegmann, she is one of only three German women with more than 150 caps, having reached that mark in a 23 November 2006 match against Japan. Hanna Ljungberg
Hanna Carolina Ljungberg (born 8 January 1979) is a Swedish former football player, who played the position of forward. She played for the club side Umeå IK and for the Swedish national football team. She debuted for Sweden, at age 17, on 6 February 1996, when Sweden won 8-0 against Spain. Ljungberg can be seen in the Sveriges Television documentary television series The Other Sport from 2013. Gärd Kristin "Kicki" Bengtsson (born 12 January 1970) is a Swedish former footballer who played as a defender. She represented the Sweden national team from 1991 to 2005. Ferreiras
Ferreiras is a civil parish in the southern Portuguese municipality of Albufeira. The population in 2011 was 6,406 in an area of 20.13 km². History From the discovery of various archeological vestiges within the territory, including the Cerros Altos region, there is a consensus that human settlement in the area occurred in the 2nd century A.D. (including the remains of forge/foundry and inscription). Hege Riise (born 18 July 1969) is a Norwegian football coach and former midfield player who is coaching the Norway women's national football team. One of the best footballers of her generation, she won the FIFA Women's World Cup, the Olympic Games, and the UEFA Women's Euro with the Norway women's national football team. Albufeira () is a city and seat of its own municipality in the district of Faro, in the southernmost Portuguese region of Algarve. The municipality population in 2021 was 44,158, in an area of .
