2001–02 OHL Season
The 2001–02 OHL season was the 22nd season of the Ontario Hockey League. Twenty teams each played 68 games. The Erie Otters defeated the Barrie Colts for the J. Ross Robertson Cup. Ontario Hockey League
The Ontario Hockey League (OHL; french: Ligue de hockey de l'Ontario (LHO)) is one of the three major junior ice hockey leagues which constitute the Canadian Hockey League. The league is for players aged 16–19. There are exceptions for overage players of 20 years of age. There are currently 20 teams in the OHL; seventeen in Ontario, two in Michigan, and one in Pennsylvania. The league was founded in 1980 when its predecessor, the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League, formally split away from the Ontario Hockey Association, joining the Canadian Hockey League, Canadian Major Junior Hockey League and its direct affiliation with Hockey Canada. Sarnia Sting
Sarnia is a city in Lambton County, Ontario, Canada. It had a 2021 population of 72,047, and is the largest city on Lake Huron. Sarnia is located on the eastern bank of the junction between the Upper and Lower Great Lakes where Lake Huron flows into the St. Clair River in the Southwestern Ontario region, which forms the Canada–United States border, directly across from Port Huron, Michigan. The site's natural harbour first attracted the French explorer La Salle. He named the site "The Rapids" on 23 August 1679, when he had horses and men pull his 45-ton barque ''Le Griffon'' north against the nearly four-knot current of the St. Clair River. Patrick O'Sullivan (ice Hockey)
Patrick O'Sullivan (born February 1, 1985) is a Canadian-born American former professional ice hockey forward who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild and Phoenix Coyotes. Early life O'Sullivan was born in Toronto, Ontario, but grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His father, John O'Sullivan, a Toronto native, played for the minor-league Winston-Salem Thunderbirds of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. Darryl Bootland
Darryl Bootland (born November 2, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right wing who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders. Playing career Bootland was drafted 252nd overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche from the Toronto St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey League. After his final year in the OHL, Bootland signed with the Detroit Red Wings as a free agent to a three-year contract on August 29, 2002. Bootland made his NHL debut with the Red Wings in the 2003–04 season, recording two points (1–1–2) and 74 PIM in 22 games. Cory Pecker
Cory Pecker (born March 20, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger. He was drafted in the sixth round, 166th overall, by the Calgary Flames in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Pecker was born in Montreal, Quebec, and is Jewish. At 15 years of age, playing for Team Canada, Pecker was the youngest player to play in the 1997 Maccabiah Games ice hockey tournament in Israel. The team won the gold medal. Kris Newbury (born February 19, 1982) is a Canadians, Canadian former professional ice hockey Forward (ice hockey), forward who is currently playing with the Hamilton Steelhawks (senior), Hamilton Steelhawks in the Allan Cup Hockey (ACH). Jason Spezza
Jason Rocco Anthony Spezza (born June 13, 1983) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. Spezza played 19 career seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 2002 to 2022, and is currently a part of the Toronto Maple Leafs' front office. After beginning his major junior career at the early age of 15 in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Spezza was selected second overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators, eventually serving as their team captain following the departure of Daniel Alfredsson. Mike Renzi (hockey)
Michael Ernest Renzi (April 28, 1941 – September 29, 2021) was an American composer, music director, pianist, and jazz musician. Renzi graduated from the Boston Conservatory in 1973 and from Berklee College of Music in 1974. He was a musical director for Peggy Lee and Mel Tormé for over 25 years. He worked on ''Sesame Street'' as the music director for seasons 31 through 40 and led the Mike Renzi Trio. He died in Newport, Rhode Island, on September 28, 2021, at the age of 80. Nathan Robinson (hockey)
Nathan Robinson (born December 31, 1981) is a Canadian former ice hockey forward. He played 7 games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins between 2003 and 2006. The rest of his career, which lasted from 2002 to 2020, was primarily been spent in Europe. Playing career Robinson played major junior hockey with the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League, where he won the OHL scoring title in the 2001-02 season.
