2001–02 LEN Champions League
The 2001–02 LEN Champions League was the 39th edition of LEN's premier competition for men's water polo clubs. It ran from 24 October 2001 to 25 May 2002, and it was contested by 28 teams. The Final Four (semifinals, final, and third place game) took place on May 24 and May 25 in Budapest. LEN Champions League
The LEN Champions League is the top-tier European professional water polo club competition with teams from up to 18 countries. It is organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation. The competition started in 1963 as European Cup. A change of name and format occurred in 1996, with the competition being renamed Champions League and the final four system being established as the format of choice, for the first time during the 1996–97 LEN Champions League. From 2003 to 2011 the competition was named LEN Euroleague (with the change of name being simply a re-branding) and from 2011 and on LEN Champions League, its current name. LEN Champions League is the most popular water polo league in the European continent. It has been won by 24 clubs, 10 of which have won the title more than once. Antonios "Antonis" Vlontakis (born 10 October 1975) is a retired Greek water polo player. A long-standing member of the Greece national water polo team, Vlontakis competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics (10th place), the 2004 Summer Olympics (4th place), and the 2008 Summer Olympics (7th place). Ioannis Thomakos (born 14 March 1977) is a Greek water polo player who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics (10th place), the 2004 Summer Olympics (4th place) and the 2008 Summer Olympics (7th place) with the Greece men's national water polo team. Georgios Psykhos (born 5 February 1973) is a Greek former water polo player who competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics (6th place), the 2000 Summer Olympics (10th place) with the Greece men's national water polo team. Dimitris Kravaritis ( el, Δημήτρης Κραβαρίτης, born 28 March 1972) is a retired Greek water polo player who played his entire career for Olympiacos. He is the current head coach of Greece Junior national water polo team, whom he led to the bronze medal at the 2015 European Games at Baku and the current assistant coach of Greece men's national water polo team as well. He is also the head of Olympiacos Water Polo Academy. As a player, Kravaritis played his entire career for Olympiacos, where he won numerous titles including the 2002 LEN Champions League.
