2001–02 Belarusian Cup
2001–02 Belarusian Cup was the eleventh season of the Belarusian annual football cup competition. Contrary to the league season, it is conducted in a fall-spring rhythm. The first games were played on August 15, 2001. Winners of the Cup qualified for the UEFA Cup Qualifying round. First round The draw was conducted on 31 July 2001. Four First League clubs ( Darida Minsk Raion, Zvezda-VA-BGU Minsk, Kommunalnik Slonim and Torpedo-Kadino Mogilev) were given a bye to the next round by a drawing of lots. The games were played on 15 August 2001. Round of 32 The draw was conducted on 16 August 2001. Five Premier League clubs ( Dinamo Minsk, Neman-Belcard Grodno, Molodechno-2000, Gomel and Belshina Bobruisk) advanced to the next round by a drawing of lots. FC Gomel
FC Gomel ( be, ФК Гомель), or FK Homiel, is a Belarusian football club, playing in the city of Gomel. Their home stadium is Central Stadium. History Teams from Gomel (usually city or raion selection or railway-based team ''Lokomotiv'', but not always) played in the Belarusian SSR championships since the early 1920s. In 1946, Belorusian SSR league for one season becomes one of the zones of the USSR 3rd level league, and ''Lokomotiv Gomel'' became the first city team to play in the Soviet league. The modern Gomel team was founded in 1959 as ''Lokomotiv Gomel''. They played at the 2nd level of Soviet football between 1959 and 1968. FC Minsk Stadium is a football stadium in Minsk, Belarus. It is a home ground of FC Minsk. The stadium holds 3,000 people. History The stadium was built at the same location as former Kamvolschik Stadium, which was most recently used for lower leagues, youth and reserve teams matches. By mid-2000s it had been largely abandoned and was slowly decaying. In the past, the stadium was used for Belarusian SSR league games and as an occasional substitute pitch for Belarusian Premier League and Belarusian Cup games by various clubs. FC SKVICH Minsk was a Belarusian football club based in Minsk, last playing in the Belarusian Second League. History The team was founded in late 2000 by travel company SKVICH, which had had investments in sport and football projects (such as their own football school) for several years. Before the start of their first season, after gaining support from Belarusian Railways, the team was renamed Lokomotiv Minsk. The team won the Second League in 2001 and finished 3rd in the First League the following year and was promoted to the Belarusian Premier League. Lokomotiv finished in the relegation zone of the table in three of their four seasons in the Premier League; twice they were promoted after only one season, until they got stuck in the First League following relegation in 2008.
