2001 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2001 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was played at the end of the 2001 NCAA Division I baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its fifty fifth year. Sixteen regional competitions were held to determine the participants in the final event, with each winner advancing to a best of three series against another regional champion for the right to play in the College World Series. Each region was composed of four teams, resulting in 64 teams participating in the tournament at the conclusion of their regular season, and in some cases, after a conference tournament. The fifty-fifth tournament's champion was Miami (FL), coached by Jim Morris. The Most Outstanding Player was Charlton Jimerson of Miami (FL). Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium is a baseball venue located in Tallahassee, Florida, United States, located adjacent to Doak Campbell Stadium on the campus of Florida State University. It is the home field of the Florida State Seminoles baseball team of the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference. It opened in 1983 and was renovated in 2004. Foley Field
Foley Field is a baseball stadium in Athens, Georgia, United States. It is the home field of the University of Georgia Bulldogs college baseball team. The stadium holds 3,291 people. Foley Field was built in 1966. The stadium was renovated in 1990, the same year that the University of Georgia won the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Since that renovation, Georgia owns a 378–193–1 (.660) record there (through the 2006 season). Foley Field hosted the 1987 Southeastern Conference baseball tournament, won by Mississippi State. The 2001 Florida Gators baseball team represented the University of Florida in the sport of baseball during the 2001 NCAA Division I baseball season, 2001 college baseball season. The Gators competed in Division I (NCAA), Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
