The 2001 Marlboro Masters of Formula 3 was the eleventh Masters of Formula 3 race held at the Circuit Park Zandvoort in Zandvoort, Netherlands on 5 August 2001. The 25-lap race was won by Takuma Sato, for Carlin Motorsport who started from the pole position and led every lap. André Lotterer of Jaguar Racing finished in second, 9.2 seconds behind Sato, whose teammate Anthony Davidson placed third. Zandvoort () is a municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It is one of the major beach resorts of the Netherlands; it has a long sandy beach. Frank Diefenbacher
Frank Diefenbacher (born 19 March 1982 in Pforzheim) is a German auto racing driver. Career Diefenbacher won the German Junior Kart Championship in 1996. His first steps out of karting were in Formula Ford in Germany in 1998, where he finished third. He finished fourth in Formula König in 1999. Diefenbacher stepped up to the German Formula Three Championship in 2000. He finished tenth in his first year, but improved in 2001 to finish third, before finishing fourth in 2002. In 2003 Diefenbacher was signed by SEAT Sport for their European Touring Car Championship campaign. In 2003 he beat teammate Jordi Gené in the final standings to finish 15th, and finished 11th in 2004, tied on points with new teammate and experienced touring car driver Rickard Rydell. The 2001 German Formula Three Championship (german: 2001 Deutsche Formel-3-Meisterschaft) was a multi-event motor racing championship for single-seat open wheel formula racing cars that held across Europe. The championship featured drivers competing in two-litre Formula Three racing cars built by Dallara which conform to the technical regulations, or formula, for the championship. It commenced on 21 April at Hockenheim and ended at the same place on 6 October after ten double-header rounds. Opel Team BSR driver Toshihiro Kaneishi became the first and only Japanese champion and the first champion from Asia. He clinched the title, winning races at Norisring and A1-Ring. Stefan Mücke finished as runner-up with wins at Nürburgring and Hockenheim, losing just four points to Kaneishi. Born in 1976 in Hong Kong, Marchy started his racing career at just 9 years old and has become one of the top racecar drivers in Hong Kong.
