The final was played at the Stadionul Naţional in Bucharest on 16 June 2001 and was contested between Divizia A sides Dinamo București and Rocar București. The cup was won by Dinamo. 2000–01 Cupa României
The 2000–01 Cupa României was the 63rd edition of Romania's most prestigious football cup competition. The title was won by Dinamo București against Rocar București. Format The competition is an annual knockout tournament. First round proper matches are played on the ground of the lowest ranked team, then from the second round proper the matches are played on a neutral location. If a match is drawn after 90 minutes, the game goes into extra time, where it works golden goal rule. If the match is still tied, the result is decided by penalty kicks. In the semi-finals, each tie is played as a two legs. From the first edition, the teams from Divizia A entered in competition in sixteen finals, rule which remained till today. Bogdan Mihai Onuț (born 13 October 1976) is a Romanian former football player who used to play as a defender. Gheorghe Mihali (born 9 December 1965) is a retired Romanian Association football, football defender and current manager of Liga III squad FC Dunărea Călărași, Dunărea Călărași. Career He debuted in Divizia A with FC Olt Scornicești in 1984. He went to FC Dinamo București, Dinamo București in 1991, and helped Dinamo win the title in his debut season. Florin Prunea
Florin Prunea (born 8 August 1968) is a Romanian former football goalkeeper. He was born in Bucharest and started his career for Dinamo București. His breakthrough came with U Cluj in the 1988/89 season. In 1991, he won with Universitatea Craiova both the title and the Romanian Cup. Later he was the first-choice goalkeeper for Dinamo București for six seasons. Prunea got 40 caps for the national team, and represented his country at the 1994 World Cup, Euro 1996, 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. Penalty Kick (association Football)
A penalty kick (commonly known as a penalty or a spot kick) is a method of restarting play in association football, in which a player is allowed to take a single shot at the goal while it is defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. It is awarded when an offence punishable by a direct free kick is committed by a player in their own penalty area. The shot is taken from the penalty mark, which is 11 m (12 yards) from the goal line and centred between the touch lines. Procedure The ball is placed on the penalty mark, regardless of where in the penalty area the foul occurred. The player taking the kick must be identified to the referee. Marius Constantin Niculae (born 16 May 1981), nicknamed (''Arrow'' in Romanian) is a Romanian retired footballer who played as a centre forward. Niculae started his career with Dinamo București, progressing through their youth system to the first team squad. He made his first team debut in 1996 while he was still 15 years old and finished his time at the club having scored 44 goals in 100 Divizia A appearances. Adrian Dumitru Mihalcea (born 24 May 1976 in Slobozia) is a Romanian professional football manager and former player, currently in charge of Liga II club Gloria Buzău. Career Mihalcea spent many years playing with one of the top Romanian teams, Dinamo București, where he won the Romanian First Division championship in 2000 and the Romanian Cup in 2000 and again in 2001. Mihalcea started the 2001 season for Dinamo in excellent form, scoring 11 goals in 14 league matches, and earned 5th place in the competition for the 2001 Romanian Footballer of the Year award. This performance attracted the interest of Italian Serie B side Genoa 1893, and Mihalcea signed for the club in January 2002.
