2000–01 Derby County F.C. Season
During the 2000–01 English football season, Derby County competed in the FA Premier League (known as the FA Carling Premiership for sponsorship reasons). Season summary Derby's season started with one defeat and four draws in their first five games during which they scored 11 goals. However, the goals soon dried up and overall, another season of struggle plagued Pride Park, but Jim Smith's men were saved with one week of the season left after a shock 1–0 win over champions Manchester United at Old Trafford as well as Manchester City losing their penultimate game of the season at Ipswich Town. The attention was then quickly focused on improving the squad for 2001–02 in a bid to prevent another relegation battle. Derby ( ) is a city and unitary authority area in Derbyshire, England. It lies on the banks of the River Derwent in the south of Derbyshire, which is in the East Midlands Region. Georgi Kinkladze ( ka, გიორგი ქინქლაძე, ; born 6 July 1973), also spelled Georgiou, or Giorgi, or shortened to Gio, is a Georgian former footballer who played as a playmaking midfielder. Born in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, his first professional club was Mretebi Tbilisi. Simo Johannes Valakari (born 28 April 1973) is a Finnish football coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of FK Auda. Career Valakari began his career with KontU in the Finnish lower divisions, before first moving to FinnPa in 1995 and then to Scottish club Motherwell in 1996. After four seasons in Scotland, he was off to Derby County in the English Premiership. Valakari failed to become a first team regular at Pride Park Stadium and decided to join Dallas Burn for the 2004 MLS season and finished the year with a goal and four assists. Dean Constantine Sturridge (born 26 July 1973) is an English former professional footballer and football commentator for beIN Sports. Seth Art Maurice Johnson (born 12 March 1979) is an English retired footballer. He spent his career at Crewe Alexandra, Derby County and Leeds United, and played one international for England in 2000.
