The year 2000 in radio involved some significant events. __TOC__ Events *The Real Radio & Century Radio networks become active on – air, through the United Kingdom. *The Quad-Cities' signal for 1580 AM, last holding the call letters KFQC, goes silent for the last time. To date, there has been no announcement when, or if, a station will be returning to the frequency, which had been in use since 1952. *January - Country-formatted KFMS/Las Vegas flips to Top 40/CHR, "Kiss FM" *January 14 - WQSH/Louisville shifts from Modern AC to Hot AC *January 27 - The City 97.9/Oklahoma City flipped from Smooth jazz to Rhythmic CHR, branded as "Wild 97dot9." *March - Connoisseur Communications, owners of Quad Cities radio stations KJOC, KORB, WXLP, KQLI and KBOB, are sold to Cumulus Media. At the same time, a series of format changes at two of the stations are unveiled. Real Radio
Real Radio was a network of five regional radio stations broadcasting to North East England, North West England, Scotland, Wales and Yorkshire. Each station broadcast a mix of local and networked programming. On Tuesday 6 May 2014, the stations were merged with the Heart network. History Sir Robert Phillis, the former GMG chief executive, enlisted John Myers to establish GMG Radio. Fox Sports Radio is an American sports radio network. Based in Los Angeles, California, the network is operated and managed by Premiere Networks in a content partnership with Fox Corporation's Fox Sports division and iHeartMedia, parent company of Premiere Networks. With studios also in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Tampa, Phoenix, Tulsa, Cincinnati, and Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio is broadcast on more than 400 stations, as well as FoxSports.com on MSN and iHeartRadio. Clear Channel Communications (now iHeartMedia) sold its stake in Sirius XM Radio in the second quarter of fiscal year 2013. WTDY-FM (96.5 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The station is owned by Audacy, Inc. and broadcasts a Top 40/CHR format. WTDY's studios are co-located with located within Audacy's corporate headquarters in Center City, Philadelphia, while its transmitter is located off Domino Lane in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, a site where other local FM and TV towers are located. History Early years Independence Broadcasting Company, the owners of WHAT (1340 AM), applied to the Federal Communications Commission for a construction permit for a new FM station on 103.5 MHz on October 5, 1945. The FCC granted the permit on July 10, 1947, while reassigning the station to 105.3 MHz. The FCC granted permission on December 2, 1948 for the station to begin broadcasting, by which time it had been assigned the WHAT-FM call sign. WKMK
WKMK and WTHJ (106.3 and 106.5 FM, "Thunder 106") are two radio stations simulcasting a country music format. The stations are licensed to Eatontown and Bass River Township, New Jersey, respectively. The station is owned by Press Communications. WKMK's transmitter is located at exit 105 of the Garden State Parkway in Tinton Falls. WTHJ's transmitter is located on the tower of Philadelphia television station WWSI/62 located in Tuckerton in extreme southern Ocean County. The studios are located in Neptune, New Jersey. The 106.3 WKMK signal reaches Staten Island to the north, Toms River to the south and Hightstown to the west. The 106.5 WTHJ signal reaches Brick Township to the north, Ocean City to the south and Philadelphia to the west.
