Chess
Chess is a board game for two players, called White and Black, each controlling an army of chess pieces in their color, with the objective to checkmate the opponent's king. It is sometimes called international chess or Western chess to distinguish it from related games, such as xiangqi (Chinese chess) and shogi (Japanese chess). Gunay Vugar qizi Mammadzada ( az, Günay Vüqar qızı Məmmədzadə; born June 19, 2000) is an Azerbaijani chess player who holds the titles of International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM) through the International Chess Federation (FIDE). She has been an under-10 girls' World Youth Chess Championship, World Youth Champion, and both an under-8 and an under-14 girls' European Youth Chess Championship, European Youth Champion. Mammadzada is a two-time Azerbaijani Chess Championship, Azerbaijani women's national champion, which she achieved in 2017 and 2019. Max Warmerdam
Max Warmerdam (born 30 March 2000) is a Dutch chess grandmaster. Chess career Warmerdam earned his FIDE master title in 2015, followed by the international master title in 2018. After qualifying through the "top nine-round event" at the 2019 Tata Steel Chess Tournament, Warmerdam was invited to compete at the Tata Steel Challengers in 2020. He placed 12th with 4½/13 (+2–6=5). During the tournament, he defeated the eventual winner David Antón Guijarro with the black pieces. Warmerdam is coached by Loek van Wely. From 3 to 7 January 2021, Warmerdam participated in the Vergani Cup. He scored 7/9 to take first place, half-a-point clear of the rest of the field. Alexey Vasilyevich Sarana (russian: Алексей Васильевич Сарана, ; born 26 January 2000) is a Russian-born Serbian chess grandmaster. He won the European Individual Chess Championship in 2023. His father is Ukrainian and lives near Kyiv. Sarana left Russia in March 2022, stating that he does not plan to return until the end of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Chess career Born in 2000, Sarana earned his international master title in 2016 and his grandmaster title in 2017. In February 2018, he participated in the Aeroflot Open. Zhansaya Abdumalik ( kk, Jansaya Daniyarqyzy Äbdimalik; russian: Жансая́ Дания́ровна Абдумали́к; born 12 January 2000) is a Kazakhstani chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster (GM). She is the first Kazakhstani woman, and the 39th woman overall, to earn the GM title. Abdumalik has a peak FIDE rating of 2505 and has been ranked as high as No. 11 in the world among women. The FIDE World Chess Championship 2000 was held in New Delhi, India, and Tehran, Iran. The first six rounds were played in New Delhi between 27 November and 15 December 2000, and the final match in Tehran started on 20 December and ended on 24 December 2000. The top seeded Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand won the championship. Background At the time of this championship, the World title was split.
