2000 Scottish Challenge Cup Final
The 2000 Scottish Challenge Cup Final was played on 19 November 2000, at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld and was the 10th staging of the final in the history of the tournament. It was played between Airdrieonians and Livingston both of the First Division. Airdrieonians emerged winners after defeating Livingston 3–2 on penalties following a 2–2 draw after extra time. Route to the final Airdrieonians The first round draw brought Queen of the South to face Airdrieonians at the Excelsior Stadium with the home team emerging 2–1 victors. The second round was an away game at Hamilton Academical with Airdrie producing a 1–0 win and only clean sheet of the tournament. A home game against Clydebank was the reward for reaching the quarter-finals with The Diamonds edging the opposition 4–3 on penalties following a 1–1 draw after extra time. The 2000–01 Scottish Challenge Cup was the tenth season of the competition, which was also known as the Bell's Challenge Cup for sponsorship reasons. It was competed for by the 30 member clubs of the Scottish Football League. Excelsior Stadium
The Excelsior Stadium, is a football stadium in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is the home ground of Airdrieonians of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). Since the 2021–22 season it has also been used by Celtic for the home matches of their women's team in the Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL) and B team in the Scottish Lowland Football League, as well as by Glasgow University F.C. of the West of Scotland Football League. Paul Armstrong (Irish Footballer)
Paul George Armstrong (born 5 October 1978) is an Irish former professional footballer who played mainly as a midfielder. Armstrong played in both professional and semi-professional teams in England and Scotland and had international appearances for the Republic of Ireland U18 and U21 teams. Playing career Brighton and Hove Albion Armstrong started his career as a junior for Brighton & Hove Albion youth team, progressing into the first team in 1997. In March 1998, he was picked for the Republic of Ireland under-21 team for a friendly game against the Czech Republic. Armstrong scored his first senior goal from a penalty in a game against Chester City in January 1999. John Patton Anderson (born 2 October 1972) is a Scottish football coach and former player, who played as a defender. He had been the under-18s manager at Leeds United. He was manager at North Ferriby United between 2010 and 2011. Playing career Anderson played the majority of his career in Scotland with Greenock Morton and Livingston, before finishing his career in England with Hull City and Bristol Rovers. Coaching career He took over as manager of Northern Premier League Premier Division club North Ferriby United in October 2010, having been assistant manager since 2007. Scott Crabbe
Scott Crabbe (born 12 August 1968 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish retired footballer. he played for several Scottish clubs, including Heart of Midlothian, Dundee United and Falkirk. He represented the Scotland under-21 team and was named SPFA Young Player of the Year in 1990. Career Crabbe started his career with Heart of Midlothian. He joined Hearts from Tynecastle Boys Club in 1986 and made his league debut against Clydebank in January 1987. He started as a midfielder but the switch to striker transformed his career. Becoming a regular first team player, he formed a successful striking partnership with John Robertson. He was selected for the Scotland under-21 team and awarded the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year. Crabbe left Hearts in 1992 to join Dundee United. David McGuire (born 27 September 1980 in Bellshill) is a Scottish footballer who plays for junior club Lanark United. His previous senior clubs include Airdrie United. Career In late March 2000, McGuire was - like other players - allowed to leave due to Airdrie's uncertain future and he, along with Darren Brady, signed for Dundee United until the end of the season. The pair saw little action with United, with only Brady making a substitute appearance in the final game of the season and both players moved on to Livingston in the summer. McGuire spent a season at Almondvale before moving to newly formed Airdrie United, where he spent five seasons. McGuire left the club in the summer of 2007 and moved into junior football.
