Marat Safin
Marat Mubinovich Safin ( rus, Мара́т Муби́нович Са́фин, , mɐˈrat ˈsafʲɪn, Ru-Marat-Safin.ogg; tt-Cyrl, Марат Мөбин улы Сафин; born 27 January 1980) is a Russian retired world No. 1 tennis player and former politician. He achieved the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world No. 1 singles ranking on 20 November 2000. Safin is also the older brother of former WTA world No. 1 player Dinara Safina. They are the only brother-sister tandem in tennis history who have both achieved No. 1 rankings. Safin began his professional tennis career in 1997, and held the No. 1 ranking for a total of 9 weeks between November 2000 and April 2001. Christian Ruud
Christian Ruud (born 24 August 1972) is a Norwegian former tennis player who turned professional in 1991. He achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 39 in October 1995, reaching the fourth round of the 1997 Australian Open and the quarterfinals of the 1997 Monte Carlo Masters. He retired in 2001 after the 2001 French Open. He was the highest ranked Norwegian male player ever on the ATP Tour until his son Casper Ruud surpassed him in February 2020. Ruud was born in Oslo, and represented Norway at three consecutive Olympic Games, reaching the third round in Atlanta in 1996. Albert Portas Soy (, ; born 15 November 1973) is a Spanish former professional tennis player. Career Portas turned professional in 1994. He reached his career-high singles ranking of World No. 19 in October 2001. His only top-level singles title came at the 2001 Hamburg Masters, a tournament in which his mastery of the drop shot (key to his defeat of Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final) earned him the nickname "Drop Shot Dragon". Andrea Gaudenzi (; born 30 July 1973) is an Italian former tennis player and the current chairman of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) since January 2020. Gaudenzi was born in Faenza, Italy, in the province of Ravenna, and turned professional in 1990 after becoming Junior World Champion by winning both the French Open and US Open junior titles. George Edward Bastl (born 1 April 1975) is a former professional tennis player from Switzerland. Tennis career Bastl was an All-American at the University of Southern California. He achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 71 in May 2000 and reached one ATP Tour singles final at Tashkent in 1999. The biggest win of Bastl's tennis career came in the second round of the 2002 Wimbledon Championships, where he caused one of the biggest upsets in Wimbledon and Grand Slam history by defeating seven-time champion Pete Sampras, winning in five sets by the score of 6–3, 6–2, 4–6, 3–6, 6–4. Markus Hipfl (born 26 April 1978) is a former professional tennis player from Austria. Career Hipfl had a noteworthy junior career. He won the Under-16s Orange Bowl in 1994 and was also a finalist in that year's European Championship. In 1996 he finished runner-up in the 1996 US Open Boys' Singles, losing in the final to German Daniel Elsner. During the 1999 ATP Tour, Hipfl broke into the top 100 for the first time.
