2nd Tank Regiment (Italy)
The 2nd Tank Regiment ( it, 2° Reggimento Carri) is an inactive tank regiment of the Italian Army based in San Vito al Tagliamento in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Originally the regiment, like all Italian tank units, was part of the infantry, but on 1 June 1999 it became part of the cavalry. Operationally the regiment was last assigned to the Mechanized Brigade "Gorizia". History Interwar years The regiment was formed on 15 September 1936 in Montorio Veronese as 2nd Tank Infantry Regiment with four battalions: IV, V, and XI assault tanks battalions and the III Breach Tanks Battalion. The assault tanks battalions fielded L3/35 tankettes, while the breach tanks battalion fielded Fiat 3000 light tanks. Lagunari Regiment "Serenissima"
The Lagunari Regiment "Serenissima" ( it, Reggimento Lagunari "Serenissima") is the active unit of Italian Army's infantry arm's Marines (military), amphibious Lagunari speciality. The name of the specialty comes from the Italian word for lagoon ( it, laguna), while the regiment's name "Serenissima" commemorates the Most Serene Republic of Venice ( it, Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia). The regiment is based in Venice and assigned to the Cavalry Brigade "Pozzuolo del Friuli". The "Pozzuolo del Friuli" brigade forms, together with the Italian Navy's Third Naval Division and San Marco Marine Brigade, the Italian Armed Forces' Sea Projection Force ( it, Forza di proiezione dal mare). The regiment was formed in 1957 as the Italian Army's amphibious force.
