The 29th Lumières Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Lumières, took place on 22 January 2024 to honour the best in French language, French-speaking cinema of 2023. The nominations were announced on 14 December 2023. ''Anatomy of a Fall'' led the nominations with six, followed by ''The Animal Kingdom (2023 film), The Animal Kingdom'' and ''The Goldman Case'' with five. ''Anatomy of a Fall'' won the most awards with three, including Lumières Award for Best Film, Best Film. Winners and nominees The nominations were announced on 14 December 2023. Lumières Awards
The Lumières (literally in English: ''The Lights'') was a cultural, philosophical, literary and intellectual movement beginning in the second half of the 17th century, originating in western Europe and spreading throughout the rest of Europe. It included philosophers such as Baruch Spinoza, David Hume, John Locke, Edward Gibbon, Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Denis Diderot, Pierre Bayle and Isaac Newton. This movement is influenced by the scientific revolution in southern Europe arising directly from the Italian renaissance with people like Galileo Galilei. Over time it came to mean the , in English the Age of Enlightenment. Members of the movement saw themselves as a progressive élite, and battled against religious and political persecution, fighting against what they saw as the irrationality, arbitrariness, obscurantism and superstition of the previous centuries.
