27th European Film Awards
The 27th European Film Awards were presented on 13 December 2014 in Riga, Latvia. The winners were selected by more than 2,500 members of the European Film Academy. Nominations for the People's Choice Award category were announced on 1 September 2014. On 16 September 2014, the European Film Academy and EFA Productions announced a list of 50 films which qualified for nominations. All nominations were announced on 8 November 2014 at the Seville European Film Festival The Seville European Film Festival (SEFF; es, Festival de Cine Europeo de Sevilla, links=no) is an annual film festival dedicated to European cinema held in November in Seville, Spain, since 2004. Latvian National Opera
The Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB) is an opera house and opera company at Aspazijas boulevard 3 in Riga. Its repertoire includes performances of opera and ballet presented during the season which lasts from mid-September to the end of May. During a typical season, LNOB presents almost 200 performances, including, on average, 6 new productions. The largest is the Great Hall which houses 946 seats, while the smaller ones – the New Hall, the Dress Circle Hall ''(Beletāžas zāle'') and the Red Hall – have a maximum seating capacity of 338, 170 and 100 respectively. LNOB employs a total of approximately 600 people. The building is located on the bank of the Riga Canal, near the Freedom Monument. As of 5 November 2019, the chairman of the board is Egils Siliņš, a world renowned opera singer. ''Force Majeure'' (; sv, Turist, "tourist") is a 2014 internationally co-produced black comedy film written and directed by Ruben Östlund. It follows the marital tension resulting from an apparent avalanche in the French Alps, during which the husband prioritizes his own escape over the safety of his wife and two children. The title used for the film in some English-speaking countries comes from '' force majeure'', a contractual clause freeing both parties from liability in the event of unexpected disasters. ''Force Majeure'' was acclaimed upon release, with critics praising its script and cinematography. Ebru Ceylan
Ebru Ceylan (, born 26 January 1976) is a Turkish photographer, actress, screenwriter and art director. She is married to collaborator Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Ebru Yapıcı was born in Ankara and studied film and television at Marmara University and Mimar Sinan University. The Ceylans starred together in the 2006 film ''Climates'', which they also co-wrote, beginning a writing collaboration that would include ''Three Monkeys'' (2008), ''Once Upon a Time in Anatolia'' (2011) and the Palme d'Or-winning '' Winter Sleep'' (2014). Nuri Bilge described their writing relationship, which Ebru opted to end after ''Winter Sleep'', saying "Since she is my wife she has the right to say anything. Rebecca Lenkiewicz
Rebecca Lenkiewicz (born 1968) is a British playwright and screenwriter. She is best known as the author of ''Her Naked Skin'' (2008), which was the first original play written by a living female playwright to be performed on the Olivier stage of the Royal National Theatre. Several of Lenkiewicz's plays have been published individually, and in 2013 Faber & Faber published a collection. Paolo Virzì (; born 4 March 1964) is an Italian film director, writer and producer. Early life and work Virzì was born in Livorno, Italy in 1964, as the son of a Sicily#Demographics, Sicilian police officer in the Carabinieri and a former singer. After spending his early childhood in Turin in the north of Italy, Virzì's family moved back to Livorno where he grew up in the working class area of "Le Sorgenti".
