279th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment is headquartered in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. It is a part of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oklahoma Army National Guard. The 279th Infantry shares a portion of its lineage with the 180th Infantry Regiment. The unit, under these two designations, saw action during World War II and the Korean War as part of the 45th Infantry Division and again in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Oklahoma Army National Guard
The Oklahoma Army National Guard is the Army National Guard component of the Oklahoma National Guard. The Commander in Chief of the Oklahoma National Guard is the Governor of Oklahoma, who appoints the State Adjutant General (TAG), a Major General from either Army or Air. Currently, the TAG is Brig. Gen. Thomas H. Mancino. The previous TAG was Maj. Gen. Michael Thompson. The history of the OK ARNG SOF aviation "Lords of Darkness" is complicated. 188th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 188th Glider Infantry Regiment was a regiment in the United States Army that was active during World War II. It was a part of the 11th Airborne Division during its entire existence. The 188th Infantry Regiment was constituted on 12 November 1942 at Camp Mackall, North Carolina. On 25 February 1943, the 188th was activated under the command of Colonel Robert H. Soule. It was designated a glider regiment, and assigned to the 11th Airborne Division. A two battalion regiment, the 188th trained and prepared for combat with its men trained at the end of the war both as gliderists and parachutists. Subsequently, on 4 July 1945 the regiment was redesignated as the 188th Parachute Infantry. In April, 1944 the 11th was moved to Camp Stoneman, east of San Francisco, California. 289th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 289th Infantry Regiment is an infantry regiment in the U.S. Army Reserve. History The regiment was activated on 15 April 1943 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. The regiment was sent to the European in 1944 and participated in the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe campaigns. It was inactivated on 23 November 1945 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia. The regiment was allocated to the Organized Reserve Corps and re-activated on 1 March 1952 and its headquarters located at Beaumont, Texas. The Organized Reserve Corps was re-designated on 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve. The location of headquarters changed 25 May 1954 to College Station, Texas. The regiment was inactivated on 31 January 1955 at College Station, Texas, and relieved from assignment to the 75th Infantry Division the same date. 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team
The 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team ("Thunderbird") is a modular infantry brigade combat team of the United States Army headquartered in Norman, Oklahoma. It is a part of the Oklahoma Army National Guard. The 45th Infantry Brigade was formed from existing elements of the disbanded 45th Infantry Division which had seen extensive action during World War II and the Korean War. The 45th Infantry Brigade was activated in 1968 and assigned to training duties for active duty army units until 1994 when the 45th was selected as one of 15 Separate Enhanced Infantry Brigades. In 1999, the brigade deployed two companies (A/1-179 and C/1-179) as part of the UN peacekeeping force in the wake of the Bosnian War. In 2003, A/1-179th Infantry deployed to Saudi Arabia while B/1-179th deployed to Kuwait to provide security for Patriot missile sites. The lineage and honors certificate is a legal document, which contains certain words and phrases, that have a specific meaning. it is the official "birth, graduation, wedding, and death certificate" of a unit. As a U.S. Government generated document it cannot be copyrighted and is in the public domain. It is also used to keep track of a units awards, and battle honorIt is not a "unit history/combat chronicle", although many historians have used them for outlines.
