25th Public Security Protection Brigade
The 25th Public Security Protection Brigade named after Prince Askold ( uk, 25-та бригада охорони громадського порядку імені князя Аскольда) is a division within the Northern Operational-Territorial Command of the National Guard of Ukraine. Its headquarters is located in Kyiv. History In 1966, in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR, the 1st Special Motorized Police Regiment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR was formed. On 2 January 1992 the 2nd regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine was founded, which became part of the . In 1995, the regiment was subordinated to the Internal Troops of Ukraine where it was renamed into the 10th special motorized regiment. The National Guard of Ukraine (NGU; uk, Націона́льна гва́рдія Украї́ни, Natsionalna hvardiia Ukrainy, , ) is the Ukrainian national gendarmerie and Internal Troops, internal military force. It is part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Ukraine), Ministry of Internal Affairs, responsible for public security. Originally created as an agency under the direct control of the Verkhovna Rada on 4 November 1991, following Ukrainian independence. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR (MVD; russian: Министерство внутренних дел СССР (МВД)) was the interior ministry of the Soviet Union from 1946 to 1991. The MVD was established as the successor to the NKVD during reform of the People's Commissariats into the Ministries of the Soviet Union in 1946. The MVD did not include agencies concerned with secret policing unlike the NKVD, with the function being assigned to the Ministry of State Security (MGB). The MVD and MGB were briefly merged into a single ministry from March 1953 until the MGB was split off as the Committee for State Security (KGB) in March 1954. The Internal Troops of Ukraine ( uk, Внутрішні війська України, - Interior Forces of Ukraine; Russian: Внутренние войска Украины, ''Vnutrenniye Voyska Ukrainy''), abbreviated ВВ 'VV') were a uniformed gendarmerie and Internal Troops in Ukraine which merged with the National Guard of Ukraine on March 13, 2014. They were subordinate to the Chief Directorate of Ministry of Internal Affairs (the country's civilian police authority), and cooperate with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Prince Askold
Askold and Dir (''Haskuldr'' or ''Hǫskuldr'' and ''Dyr'' or ''Djur'' in Old Norse; died in 882), mentioned in both the Primary Chronicle and the Nikon Chronicle, were the earliest known ''purportedly Norse'' rulers of Kiev. Primary Chronicle The ''Primary Chronicle'' relates that Askold and Dir were sanctioned by Rurik to go to Constantinople ( Norse '' Miklagård'', Slavic ''Tsargrad''). Special Honor Guard Battalion Of The National Guard Of Ukraine
The Special Honor Guard Battalion ( uk, Спеціальний батальйон почесної варти) is a ceremonial honor guard of the National Guard of Ukraine. It is subordinated to the 25th Public Security Protection Brigade. It serves a similar purpose to the Honor Guard Battalion of the Independent Presidential Regiment. History The unit was originally formed as part of the National Guard in 1993.
