22nd Senate Of Puerto Rico
The 22nd Senate of Puerto Rico was the upper house of the 14th Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico that met from January 2, 2001 to January 1, 2005. All members were elected in the General Elections of 2000. The Senate had a majority of members from the Popular Democratic Party (PPD). Antonio Fas Alzamora
Antonio "Tony" J. Fas Alzamora (born November 16, 1948) is a Puerto Rican politician and Senator. As of 31 December 2011, he was the longest-serving legislator in the history of Puerto Rico, having served in ten Legislative Assemblies, one House of Representatives (from 1977 to 1980), and nine Senates (since 1980). Early years and studies Antonio Fas Alzamora was born on November 16, 1948, in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico to farmer Chaibén J. Fas Fagundo and teacher and housewife Margarita Alzamora Brunet. He finished his elementary and high school at Academia de la Inmaculada Concepción in Mayagüez. He then began his college studies at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. The Assistant Majority and Minority Leaders of the Senate of Puerto Rico (commonly called Majority Whip and Minority Whip) are two Puerto Rican Senators who are elected by the party conferences that hold the majority and the minority respectively. These leaders substitute the Majority and Minority leaders in their absence. Maribel Rodríguez
Maribel Rodríguez is a Puerto Rican politician from the Popular Democratic Party (PPD). Rodríguez served as member of the 22nd Senate of Puerto Rico from 2001 to 2005. Rodríguez was elected to the Senate of Puerto Rico in the 2000 general election. She represented the District of Arecibo, along with Rafael Rodríguez Vargas. However, Rodríguez was forced to retire due to irregularities in her finances. Her then-husband, Juan Manuel Cruzado, mayor of Vega Alta, was also being investigated for corruption and money laundering. Rodríguez resignation was effective on March 7, 2002. Arecibo
Arecibo (; ) is a city and municipality on the northern coast of Puerto Rico, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, located north of Utuado and Ciales; east of Hatillo; and west of Barceloneta and Florida. It is about west of San Juan, the capital city. Arecibo is the largest municipality in Puerto Rico by area, and it is the core city of the Arecibo Metropolitan Statistical Area and part of the greater San Juan Combined Statistical Area. It is spread over 18 ''barrios'' and Arecibo Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). Its population in 2020 was 87,754. Migdalia Padilla Alvelo is a Puerto Rican politician and Senator. She has been a member of the Senate of Puerto Rico since 2000. Early years and studies Migdalia Padilla was born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico. Her parents are Monserrate Alvelo and Adrián Padilla. Margarita Ostolaza Bey is a former member of the Senate of Puerto Rico. Margarita Ostolaza was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico.
