The 20th Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan was elected in the Saskatchewan general election held in April 1982. The assembly sat from June 17, 1982, to September 19, 1986. The Progressive Conservative Party led by Grant Devine formed the government. 1982 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1982 Saskatchewan general election was held on April 26, 1982, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Progressive Conservative Party, led by Grant Devine, defeated the New Democratic Party government of Premier Allan Blakeney, which had governed the province since the 1971 election. The Tories won over half the popular vote, and a large majority in the legislature – the first time that the party had won an outright majority, and making Devine only the second Tory premier in the province's history. The only other time that the Tories had ever led a government was after the 1929 election, when James Anderson led a coalition government of Conservatives, Progressives and independents. The NDP vote fell to its lowest level since 1938, and the party lost 35 of its 44 seats in the legislature – the second-worst defeat of a sitting government in the province's history, behind only the Saskatchewan Liberal Party's 38-seat loss in 1944. Kelvington-Wadena
Kelvington-Wadena is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada, in the east-central region. It was created in 1975 from Wadena and Kelvington. The riding was last contested in the 2020 general election, when it returned Saskatchewan Party MLA Hugh Nerlien. Neal Herbert Hardy
Neal Herbert Hardy (born 1934) is a Canadian businessman and former political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Kelsey-Tisdale from 1980 to 1991 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Progressive Conservative. He was born in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan and worked for the Canadian National Railway, as well as owning and operating several businesses. Hardy was elected to the provincial assembly in a 1980 by-election held after John Rissler Messer resigned his seat. He served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of the Environment and as Minister of Rural Development. Hardy was defeated by Andrew Renaud when he ran for reelection in 1991. He served on the council for the rural municipality of Hudson Bay and was president of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities from 2002 to 2005. Douglas Graham Taylor
Douglas Graham Taylor (July 4, 1936 – October 7, 2009) was an educator, farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Indian Head-Wolseley from 1982 to 1991 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Progressive Conservative member. He was born near Moffat, Saskatchewan, the son of Robert Taylor, and was educated in Candiac, in Wolseley and at the University of Regina, where he received a BEd and a diploma in Educational Administration. Taylor taught school in Kipling and Wolseley, also serving as high school principal. He also operated a farm north of Wolseley. In October 1959, he married Katherine Isabel Garden. Taylor ran unsuccessfully for the leadership of the provincial Progressive Conservative party. Louis Albert Domotor (born March 11, 1943) is a farmer and former political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. He represented Humboldt from 1982 to 1986 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Progressive Conservative. He was born in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, the son of Frank Domotor. Located in central Saskatchewan, this constituency was one of 25 created for the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905. Estevan is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. The city of Estevan (pop. 10,084) is the largest centre in the constituency. Known as Saskatchewan's "Energy City", the area has rich deposits of oil, natural gas, and lignite coal. Provincial Highways 39 and 47 connect Estevan with the American state of North Dakota. Michael Alfred Hopfner (January 25, 1947 – April 19, 2009) was a hotel owner, electrical contractor and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cut Knife-Lloydminster from 1982 to 1991 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Progressive Conservative.
