2025 Interim Constitution Of Syria
The 2025 Interim Constitution of Syria, officially known as the Constitutional Declaration of the Syrian Arab Republic (), is a provisional constitution ratified by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. It establishes the basic law for a five-year transition period. This occurrence followed the downfall of Bashar al-Assad's dictatorship on 8 December 2024, which resulted from military offensives conducted in part by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, an Islamist insurgent organization, and supported by allied Turkish-backed groups in the Syrian National Army. This brought an end to over five decades of Assad family rule that began when Hafez al-Assad assumed power in 1971 under the Ba'ath Party following a coup d'état. After the fall of the Assad regime, Hassan Abdel Ghani, spokesman for the Military Operations Command, announced the repeal of the 2012 Ba'athist Syrian constitution. Al-Sharaa then declared that he would issue a "constitutional declaration" as a legal framework until a ne ...

First Syrian Transitional Government
The first Syrian transitional government () was the provisional government of Syria. It was established in December 2024 by the Syrian opposition after the Syrian General Command appointed Mohammed al-Bashir as prime minister, replacing Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali on 10 December. This came after the fall of the Assad regime and the exile of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. On 8 December 2024, hours after the fall of Damascus, Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali, the outgoing prime minister and last head of government of the Ba'athist regime, agreed to lead the transitional government in a caretaking capacity. He then transferred power to Mohammed al-Bashir, prime minister of the Syrian Salvation Government (SSG), two days later. On 29 January 2025, Ahmed al-Sharaa was appointed President of Syria by the Syrian General Command for the transitional period during the Syrian Revolution Victory Conference in Damascus, after serving as the ''de facto'' leader following the fall of t ...

2012 Constitution Of Ba'athist Syria
The 2012 Constitution of Ba'athist Syria was the constitution of Ba'athist Syria between 27 February 2012 until the fall of the Assad regime on 8 December 2024. It replaced the 1973 constitution. Following the 2011 Syrian revolution, Ba'athist Syria drafted a new constitution and put it to a referendum on 26 February 2012, which was unmonitored by international observers. The modifications in the constitution were cosmetic and part of Ba'athist government's response to the nation-wide protests. Since the move monopolized power of the Government of Syria and was drafted without consultation outside loyalist circles, Syrian opposition and revolutionary parties boycotted the referendum, resulting in very low participation as per Assad government's data. The referendum resulted in the adoption of the new constitution, which came into force on 27 February 2012. This constitution will be phased out once the new constitution by the Syrian transitional government takes place. After the ...

Political Asylum
The right of asylum (sometimes called right of political asylum; ) is an ancient juridical concept, under which people persecuted by their own rulers might be protected by another sovereign authority, like a second country or another entity which in medieval times could offer sanctuary. This right was recognized by the Ancient Egyptians, the Greeks, and the Hebrews, from whom it was adopted into Western tradition. René Descartes fled to the Netherlands, Voltaire to England, and Thomas Hobbes to France, because each state offered protection to persecuted foreigners. The Egyptians, Greeks and Hebrews recognized a religious "right of asylum", protecting people (including those accused of crime) from severe punishments. This principle was later adopted by the established Christian church, and various rules were developed that detailed how to qualify for protection and what degree of protection one would receive. The Council of Orleans decided in 511, in the presence of ...
