2024–25 WHL Season
The 2024–25 WHL season was the 59th season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The regular season started on September 20, 2024, and ended on March 23, 2025. The 2025 WHL playoffs began on March 28 and ended on May 16, 2025. The team who wins the championship will win the Ed Chynoweth Cup and will represent the WHL at the 2025 Memorial Cup, which will be hosted by the Rimouski Océanic of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada, alongside the Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times. Canadian Hockey League
The Canadian Hockey League (CHL; , LCH) is an umbrella organization that represents the three Canada-based major junior ice hockey leagues. Berkly Catton
Berkly Catton (born January 14, 2006) is a Canadian junior ice hockey player for the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL) as a prospect to the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected eighth overall by the Kraken in the 2024 NHL entry draft. Playing career In the years leading up to his junior career, Catton appeared for various AA and AAA teams in his hometown of Saskatoon, and for one season attended Shattuck-Saint Mary's, where he played at the 16U AAA level. Catton was selected first overall by the Spokane Chiefs in the 2021 Western Hockey League (WHL) bantam draft. Although he considered playing college ice hockey, he ultimately chose the WHL. Rimouski
Rimouski ( ; ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. Rimouski is located in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, at the mouth of the Rimouski River. It has a population of 48,935 (as of 2021). Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League
The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL; , LHJMQ), formerly the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is one of the three major junior ice hockey leagues that constitute the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). Rimouski Océanic
The Rimouski Océanic are a Canadian junior ice hockey team in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The franchise was granted for the 1969–70 season as the Sherbrooke Castors. The Castors played in Sherbrooke from 1969 to 1982 before moving to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, in 1982 to become the Saint-Jean Castors. In 1989, the team was renamed the Saint-Jean Lynx. In 1995, the team then moved to Rimouski, Quebec, to become the Rimouski Océanic. History The team won the QMJHL championship in the 1999–2000 season and went on to win the Memorial Cup that year, with a team featuring future NHL star Brad Richards. 2025 Memorial Cup
The 2025 Memorial Cup was a four-team round-robin format ice hockey tournament held between May 23 and June 1, 2025, at Colisée Financière Sun Life in Rimouski, Quebec, Canada. It was the 105th Memorial Cup championship which determined the champion of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). The tournament was hosted by the Rimouski Océanic, who won the right to host the tournament in December 2023. Ed Chynoweth Cup
The Ed Chynoweth Cup is an ice hockey club championship trophy awarded to the playoff champion of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Originally called the President's Cup when the league was founded in 1966, the trophy was renamed in 2007 to honour Ed Chynoweth's long service to junior ice hockey in Canada. The WHL champion earns a berth into the Memorial Cup tournament, Canada's major junior hockey championship. The Kamloops Blazers and Medicine Hat Tigers have won the most WHL championships, with six each. The Spokane Chiefs were the first team to win the renamed trophy in the 2007–08 WHL season. Memorial Cup
The Memorial Cup () is the national championship of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), a consortium of three Junior ice hockey, major junior ice hockey leagues operating in Canada and parts of the United States.
