2024 UFL Draft
The 2024 UFL draft, also known as the 2024 UFL college draft, was the first meeting of United Football League (UFL) franchises to select newly eligible players ahead of the 2025 UFL season. It was the first rookie draft since the league formed from the merger of the United States Football League (USFL) and XFL. Previously, the two predecessor leagues held separate rookie drafts in 2023 prior to the merger and then a dispersal draft in 2024 following the merge and contraction from 16 total pre-merger teams to the current 8 teams that competed in the 2024 season. The draft was be held on July 17, 2024 and was announced only six days prior. The announcement of the draft also coincided with the beginning a series of player showcase combines held by the league that will continue to be held though October 2024 after the draft but before the start of the 2025 season. The United Football League (UFL) is a Professional football (gridiron), professional American football Minor league football (gridiron), minor league scheduled to start play in March 2024. The league was created following the merger of the XFL (2020), XFL and United States Football League (2022), USFL. Background In 2017, Vince McMahon, who had previously launched the XFL (2001), XFL in 2001 as a partnership with NBC Sports, registered a trademark for the United Football League name. An unrelated United Football League (2009–2012), United Football League, founded by Bill Hambrecht, had played four abbreviated seasons from 2009 UFL season, 2009 to 2012. McMahon ultimately did not use the UFL trademark, as response to the ESPN Films ''30 for 30'' documentary "This Was the XFL" in 2017 showed that the XFL brand was still viable, and in February 2020, McMahon XFL (2020), relaunched the XFL with a similar business structure (though, unlike the 2001 XFL, operated as a sole proprietor ...
