2024 U.S. Open Cup
The 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the 109th edition of the U.S. Open Cup, the knockout domestic cup competition of American soccer. Houston Dynamo FC were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the round of 32 by Detroit City FC. On December 15, 2023, Major League Soccer announced that its teams would not participate in the 2024 edition of the U.S. Open Cup due to fixture congestion. This would have been the first year since its inception that MLS teams would not participate in the tournament. The league intended to send reserve teams from MLS Next Pro instead, but the request was denied by the United States Soccer Federation on December 20. An agreement was tempered between the two sides in mid-February, whereby MLS will send some, but not all, of its teams to the Open Cup for 2024, with discussions ongoing for a long-term solution in 2025 and beyond. Houston Dynamo FC (formerly officially, but still commonly, called the Houston Dynamo) is an American professional soccer club based in Houston. The Dynamo compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference. Established on December 15, 2005, the club was founded after their former owners relocated the San Jose Earthquakes' players and staff to Houston following the 2005 season. For their first six seasons in Houston, the Dynamo were based at Robertson Stadium on the campus of the University of Houston. 2023 National Amateur Cup
The 2023 National Amateur Cup is the 99th edition of the National Amateur Cup, a knockout cup competition open to amateur teams affiliated with the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). It will be the fifth edition of the tournament to award its champion a spot in the U.S. Open Cup. Bavarian United SC are the defending National Amateur Cup champion. Format All four regions of the USASA will hold amateur cup tournaments to crown champions, which would then qualify for the final tournament.
