2024 Saxony State Election
The next election to the Landtag of Saxony is scheduled for 1 September 2024. Background The 2019 Saxony state election, 2019 election was marked by high gains for the AfD, which gained almost 28 percent of the vote and became the second strongest force. After losses, the CDU ended up with almost 32 percent as the strongest party ahead of the AfD. The Left and the SPD received 10.4 and 7.7 percent of the vote, respectively. The Greens increased and achieved their best result in a state election in Saxony with 8.6 percent, the FDP again missed entering parliament with 4.5 percent. The Landtag of Saxony (german: Sächsischer Landtag), also known in English as the Saxon State Parliament, is the legislature of the Saxony, Free State of Saxony, one of Germany's sixteen States of Germany, states. It is responsible for legislation, control of the government, and electing some state officials. The Landtag has existed in various forms since 1831, but the current body was established during German reunification in 1990. The Landtag is directly elected and has a term of five years. Tino Chrupalla (/ˈtiːno kʁʊˈpala/; born 14 April 1975) is a German politician, and Member of the Bundestag since 2017 of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) Party. In November 2019 he was nominated by Alexander Gauland to replace him as co-chairman and later elected to the position. Since 2019, he has served as chairman and lead spokesman for the AfD. Biography Chrupalla was born on April 14, 1975, in Weißwasser then in East Germany. In 2003 qualified via profession education examen as house painter and varnisher master. He later went on to become the owner of a construction company. Chrupalla is married with two children. In March 2020, two protestors set fire to Chrupalla's car and he suffered mild injuries putting the blaze out.
