2024 Oakland Athletics Season
The 2024 Major League Baseball season, 2024 season is the 124th season for the Oakland Athletics franchise, and the 57th in Oakland, California, Oakland. It is the Athletics' final season in Oakland, as the team will Oakland Athletics relocation to Las Vegas, relocate to Las Vegas after the owners approved the move unanimously on November 16, 2023. The team will be moving to Las Vegas for the 2028 season after New Las Vegas Stadium, a new ballpark is finished. Before this, the team will take up temporary residency in West Sacramento, California, West Sacramento for three seasons at the Sutter Health Park. This is the first season for Jenny Cavnar as play-by-play announcer for A's broadcasts on NBC Sports California, thus becoming the first female primary announcer in Major League Baseball, MLB history. American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the West Coast of the United States, west coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago. From 1998 (when the NL West expanded to five teams) to 2012, the AL West was the only MLB division with four teams. The current champion of this division is the Houston Astros. New Las Vegas Stadium
The New Las Vegas Stadium is a fixed roof ballpark to be built on the site of the Tropicana Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada. It is planned as the new home stadium of the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB), when the team relocates from Oakland to Las Vegas. The new stadium would mark the first time that the Athletics franchise has played in a new stadium of their own without another sports team tenant since the completion of Philadelphia's Shibe Park in 1909. It is proposed to open for the 2028 MLB season. The stadium is estimated to cost $1.5 billion, of which taxpayers would pay $380 million. Kevin Smith (born July 4, 1996) is an American professional baseball shortstop for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays. High school and college Smith graduated from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, New York, and later attended the University of Maryland, College Park. He played three seasons as the starting shortstop for the Maryland Terrapins. Hogan Anthony Harris (born December 26, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2023. Samuel Trenton Long (born July 8, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball at California State University, Sacramento. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 18th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. William Kirby Snead (born October 7, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 2021 for the Toronto Blue Jays and also played for the Oakland Athletics.
